8-methoxypsoralen and the eye.

The kinetics of migration of radiolabeled 8-methoxypsoralen into human cataract lenses were investigated in 12 patients undergoing operation. Lenses were examined from 2.5 - 72 h after intake of 3H-labeled 8-methoxypsoralen by mouth. Demonstrable amounts of activity was only found in two of three lenses studied 24 h after intake. The aqueous humor contained less 8-methoxypsoralen than serum. The results of the study may add support to the opinion that a less rigorous sunglass regimen than that recommended by certain PUVA centers may be justified.

Enucleation in children.

In adults enucleation is usually considered a rather simple operation. By contrast the removal of an eye of a child is often a difficult task. We describe an effective technique which makes this surgical intervention a safe and trouble-free procedure.

Retinoblastoma in a microphthalmic eye.

A case of simultaneous occurrence of microphthalmus and retinoblastoma in an eye removed from a 1-year-old monozygote twin with bilateral retinoblastoma, is reported. The other eye was of normal size, and was treated with irradiation (local application of Stallard disc). This case seems to be the first one published showing that one cannot be usre of the absence of tumours in small eyes although it is extremely rare.
