[The significance of fluorescein angiogarphy in ocular toxocara granuloma (author's transl)].

Four serologically-proved cases of intraocular toxocara infections are demonstrated. Three different manifestations in the following way were found: 1. Solitary granuloma on the posterior pole (2 patients). 2. Anterior and posterior uveitis of both eyes with granuloma near the ora (1 patient). 3. Iridocyclitis of both eyes (1 patient). The fluorescein angiography examination in two cases with solitary granuloma have been repeated over a period of time and the relation of the satisfactory results to the further development of the disease is shown.

[Protein concentration in the aqueous humour of the rabbit after argon laser coagulation of the iris (author's transl)].

After coagulation of the iris of pigmented rabbits with argon laser, the protein concentration of the aqueous humour was measured at different times. An initial increase of the protein concentration was found both after low and high intensity coagulation. Already 5 hours later the protein concentration was again low and no further increase could be observed within 28 days. The contralateral untreated eye showed a lower but significant response. High intensity coagulation lead to a more severe reaction.

[Pharmacokinetics of an imidazoline derivate applied to the eye (author's transl)].

The absorption of a vasoconstrictive substance labeled with 14C, after application as eye-drops, was studied in animal experiments. After iatrogenous obstruction of the lacrimal punctum with tissue adhesive, a maximum of 6% of the substance could be measured in the total blood volume after an exposure time of 60 min. High relative concentration of the drug could be found in cornea, conjunctiva, and iris, while the concentration in lens, vitreous body, and the rest of the eye was low. The results represent the maximum values of resorption. Additional studies, made by 99mTc-pertechnetate microscintigraphy of the lacrimal drainage apparatus of the rabbit were also performed. The transport of an eye-drop from cornea and conjunctiva to the nasal cavum was found to be very rapid. Therefore it seems to be of little value to carry out investigations on the absorption of eye-drops over long time periods without prior occlusion of the lacrimal punctum.

[Quantitative fluorometry at the ocular fundus (author's transl)].

Description of a videodensitometric method for the quantitative evaluation of fluorescence angiography photographs using the Quantimet 720 image analysis computer system. The clinical value of the new method is demonstrated in a case of central serous retinopathy. With the aid of these measurements the activity of leakage points can be assessed more exactly than by mere subjective inspection of the gained pictures, thus allowing a better control of the effects of a chosen therapy.

[Further fields of application of the infrared false colour film in ophthalmological photography (author's transl)].

Aside from the distinction between old hemorrhages and pigmented changes of the ocular fundus, the use of metaspectrophotography of the eye with the Kodak Ektrachrome Infrared Film IE 135-20 can be extended successfully to other fields of ophthalmological photography. By shifting the spectral range used for photography towards near infrared and cutting off the short wavelenght part by a yellow filter, spoiling scattering is avoided up to 98 percent. Thus clear goniophotography is rendered possible even with higher magnification. Better pictures are achieved in photography of the periphery of the ocular fundus, of the fundus of eyes with moderate opacity of the cristalline lens, of juvenile macular degeneration, and of pigmented areas of the iris suspected to be tumorous.

[Fluorescein photography with polaroid film (author's transl)].

There are no difficulties in performing documentation of fluorescein pictures by slit lamp polaroid photography. This suitable method is recommended for control of corneal lesions in fitting contact lenses, and in special cases of fluorescein angiography.

[Dacrocystography. Paper I: A simplified catheter technique (author's transl)].

By using a PE-catheter for catheterising the tear ducts, dacrocystography becomes a simple and rapid investigation. It permits excellent morphological demonstration of pathological changes, since films can be obtained under screening control. A water-soluble, low viscosity contrast medium is recommended. Amongst more than 100 dacrocystograms, there were no serious complications.
