Influence of thioridazine on human cognitive, psychomotor, and reaction performance as well as subjective feelings.

The influence of thioridazine (1.0 and 1.5 mg/kg body wt.) on human performance was studied in healthy subjects in a double-blind trial vs placebo. Psychophysical performance was diminished dose-dependently. Reaction performance was clearly impaired only by the higher dose. The effect on cognitive performance varied, probably as a function of test-specific vigilance optima and the subjects' increase in reactive exertion. However, the subjective well-being of the subjects was impaired throughout.

["Antibiotic hierarchy" oriented antibacterial chemotherapy in urinary tract infections].

The resistance of 708 germs isolated from 656 samples of ambulatory urological and gynecological origin was determined. The sensitivity of E. coli, proteus types and Pseudomonas aeruginosa to internationally used antibiotics was registered in detail as percentages. On the basis of the frequency of the germs and their resistence, an antibiotic "hierarchy" is drawn up, which can simplify the initial choice of therapy, especially in out-patient treatment.

[Isolated liver perfusion with 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) in the human].

In two patients with liver metastases from colorectal cancer an isolated perfusion of the liver with 5-fluorouracil was performed. The primary tumors had been resected 5 weeks and 11 months before the perfusion treatment. By means of special cannulation system the hepatic artery and the portal vein were both arterialized. The patients recovered well after the operation. Sonographic measurements of the metastases showed colliquation areas in the tumours postoperatively.

[Influence of thioridazine on cognitive, psychomotor, and reaction performance in patients with dysthymic-depressive syndrome (author's transl)].

We examined the influence of thioridazine (2 x 200 mg/d for 14 days) on cognitive (d 2-cancellation test, digit symbol substitution task), psychomotor (aiming, visual coordination as screwdriving test) as well as simple- and choice-reaction measurements in 16 in-patients suffering from dysthymic-depressive syndrome. The different thioridazine serum levels and the intelligence quotients of the patients were used as criteria of stratification. In this way we demonstrated differentiated impairments or improvements of the human performance. Such differences would have been masked by a more global evaluation and interpretation.

[Use development of sedatives/hypnotics and psychopharmaceuticals in the DDR with international comparisons using defined daily doses (DDD)].

For the period from 1965 to 1978, the development of the use of sedatives/hypnotics, tranquilizers, neuroleptics and antidepressives within one territory of the GDR is presented in a detailed manner. Besides this information about the trend the present stage of the consumption of centrally active pharmaceuticals, their DDD-values (defined daily doses) are given and international comparison with the development in Scandinavian countries are made.
