[Somatic disorders in cardiac phobia].

The paper is concerned with the implication of vertebral complaints in connection with cardiac neurosis and the reinforcement mechanism which maintains the symptom pattern. 31 psychiatric patients with cardiac symptoms and 10 patients with solely vertebral symptoms were examined neuro-orthopedically as well as by clinical and psychological tests. The results indicated that patients with distinct organic signs as muscle hypertension, blocked vertebrae and tenderness on pressure appear to be more anxious, tensed and irritated in the paper pencil tests. This leads to the hypothesis that the organic patients are more sensitive to external and internal stimuli, which causes a higher inclination for muscle tension and therefore vertebral alteration. These alterations again are responsible for internal stimuli like pain and discomfort in the cardiac region. So a cycle is established which can be interrupted by different therapeutic steps, especially cognitive behavioral approach.

[Possibilities and contraindications of manual therapy in geriatrics (author's transl)].

Complaints of the locomotor apparatus increase in the old age. The arising of these disturbances is discussed and their effect to the locomotor apparatus with the clinical findings are described. The clinical findings are diagnosed by the methods of the Manual Medicine. The manual therapy enables the treatment of the reflectoric expression of these disturbances. The contraindications are mentioned. The "soft Tissue Technics" and the "Technics of Mobilisation" are of great importance for the treatment of complaints of the locomotor apparatus in the old age. Examples of those technics are described.

Aged↗

[Facial neuralgia and the cervical vertebral column (author's transl)].

About one quarter of the pains in cervico-cranial syndromes in 50 adults are localized in the facial region. In 19 children more than half of the pains are projected into the face. In the discussion of the possibility of radiation mechanisms it is established that the radicular lesion is of minor importance here, as is the possible compression of a peripheral nerve. The fact is stresssed that "pseudoradicular" symptoms as an expression of a painful muscular tension causes painful radiation but that it is no explanation of radiation of pain into face. The most likely explanation for this is probably "projected" pain or referred pain which must be interpreted as an abnormal cortical reaction of a pain afferent at the trigeminal nucleus into the areas of the face formed like an onion skin.

Afferent Pathways↗

[Exercise treatment in vertebragenic headache: (author's transl)].

In treating vertebragenic headache, the segmental movement, the shortened postural muscles, the feeble phasic muscles and the wrong patterns of movement can be influenced by exercises. The techniques of some of these exercises are described, the importance of an exact diagnosis is pointed out.

Cervical Vertebrae↗

[Faulty mechanics and spinal dysfunction. Investigations of the mechanism in patients with "lumbar syndrome" (author's transl)].

50 patients admitted for lumbago or sciatica are examined for their "static". Radiographs of the lumbar-pelvis-hip-joint region are taken in 2 planes with the patient standing. An oblique pelvis is a certain, a reduced angle of Leger a probable influence of lumbosciatic pain. The high-assimilation-pelvis of Gutmann produces an unfavorable prognosis.

Anthropometry↗

[Symptomatology in osteoarthrosis of the hip (author's transl)].

The pain symptom is examined in 91 hospitalized patients with osteoarthrosis of the hip. The impaired hipfunction, as determined by hip-rotation is compared to the severity of the arthrosis as determined by X-ray. Elected severe cases are contrasted as to their symptoms with patients suffering from still mild osteoarthrosis of the hip. Both groups consisted only of patients in whom the clinical severity grade conformed with the results of the X-ray. The differences between both groups are worked out.

Biomechanical Phenomena↗

[Coccygodynia--a diagnostic and therapeutic problem in orthopedics].

Coccygodynia means a lot of complaints with the most important of them, namely the spontaneous pain in the coccyx, in the top of the coccyx respectively. One can differ posttraumatic coccygodynias from others, which are the symptom of other diseases like lumbar pain, sciatica, tumors in the spinal canal, visceral diseases, that means disturbances in the gynaecologic system. By the mean of 19 predominantly female patients remarkable facts of the history, of the x-ray and clinical findings are listed up and compared in three different groups. To this examination the results of longtime-results of eleven patients who have been operated are united. The resection of the "os coccygis" doesn't seem to be a satisfying possibility to influence coccygodynias caused by traumas for a long time.

Adult↗

[Visceral diseases as cause of lumbar syndromes].

30 patients with hepatitis, 50 patients with gynecological diseases, and 100 with urological diseases were investigated with regards to lumbago to find out whether there is a correlation between the internal disease and the signs of low back pain. The patients were compared with a control group of 33 healthy people. The vertebral localisation of the pain and its radiation were investigated and discussed in certain diseases as well as any correlation between lumbago and average age. The various possibilities of pain radiation are described and the importance of the vertebral column as secondary seat of low back pain is pointed out.
