We reconstructed the penis in two patients, using one testicle for bulk and framework with a silicone prosthesis being substituted for that testicle. The results, as far as appearance and relieving mental suffering are concerned, have been satisfactory. There is no sexual sensation, and the urethra remains in the perineum.

Amino acid analysis and chemical modification of the crystalline quinolinate phosphoribosyltransferase (EC 2.4.2.19) from hog liver were performed. The enzyme contained 29 residues of half cystine per mol. The enzyme activity was strongly inhibited by sulfhydryl reagents. The number of reactive (exposed) sulfhydryl group was determined to be 10.2 and total sulfhydryl group was to be 25.2 per mol by using 5,5'-dithiobis(2-nitrobenzoic acid). The enzyme activity was also inhibited by lysine residue-, histidine residue-, and arginine residue-modifying reagents. These results and the effect of preincubation with the substrates on chemical modifications suggest that the lysine residue, histidine residue and sulfhydryl group may be closely related to the binding site of quinolinic acid.
Relatively few cases of genital injuries are reported in Japan except during times of war. One of the problems in severe genital avulsion may be the plastic surgical repair of the injured structures. In Western countries the Howard technique is considered the most practical method of scrotoplasty. Two patients with extensive scrotal avulsions were treated, one in 1959 and the other in 1960, by a method of plastic repair that retained the intact testes hanging between the thighs. By coincidence, both injuries were caused when the patients' clothing was caught in the revolving cylinder of a windlass on a ship. Both patients have been followed for more than 10 years after scrotal reconstruction. The method used for scrotal reconstruction and the long-term results are discussed.

A modified triangular flap method of ureteroneocystostomy is described. This method was used in 19 cases (21 ureters) requiring ureteroneocystostomy owing to various diseases. The patients have been followed postoperatively for 1 to 9 years. Our method is more simple than the original method described by Girgis and provides good results. Postoperative complications could be reduced or prevented by gentle manipulation of the ureter and bladder wall and by careful placement of the intravesical ureter into the incised ditch of the bladder floor, loosely anastomosed with interrupted surfaces 5 mm. apart. Dilated hydroureters without peristalsis and/or severe degenerative changes of the bladder wall involving the muscle layer are poor indications for the application of this method.
