Modelling on rural out-migration system: a probabilistic approach.

"The aim of this paper is to develop a probability model describing the variation in...total out-migration [using] micro-level data. The parameters involved in the models are estimated with the help of [the] method of moment, proportion of zeroth cell and one'th cell respectively, [and] the suitability of [the] model [is] tested through observed demographic survey data [for India]."

[Some probability models of rural hill migrants in India].

"The main content of this paper is to model the numbers of single male migrants aged 15 years and above from the households in [a rural village in India. The] author proposes two probability distribution models...." (SUMMARY IN ENG AND RUS)

On human outmigration model.

"This paper provides a probability model for the total out-migration pattern from the rural areas [of India]. The suitability of [the] model [is] tested through observed data."

Impact of preschool education component in Integrated Child Development Services programme on the cognitive development of children.

Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) is India's most comprehensive programme to increase the survival rate and enhance the health, nutrition, and learning opportunities of pre-school children and their mothers through a package of services. The present study was carried out to measure the impact of the preschool education component of the ICDS on the cognitive development of children in the age group of 3-5 years. The study design used was case/control (ICDS attending children v. Non-ICDS). Results of the study revealed the ICDS Anganwadi attendance had positive influence on the cognitive development of children. The mean cognitive score of the attenders was 40.7 as against a mean score of 30.3 in the case of non-attenders.

A modified probability model for out-migration.

"In this paper an attempt is made to describe the probability model of the total number of migrants [at the household level]. The suitability of the model is tested through observed data [for India]."

Natural occurrence of mycotoxins in some cereals.

Thirty samples each of wheat and rice and 22 of maize were screened qualitatively and quantitatively for the presence of mycotoxins out of which 13, 15 and 7 samples respectively were found to be contaminated with different mycotoxins. Aflatoxin was present in 37.4% samples and besides aflatoxin, ochratoxin A, sterigmatocystin, citrinin, rubratoxin and zearalenone were also present in the cereals. The quantity of aflatoxin was highest in rice samples in comparison to wheat and maize. During the preliminary bioassay no external changes were observed in the mice except for slight weight loss when fed with grain samples, while a high rate of mortality was observed when treated with lethal doses of mycotoxins.

Effects of commonly used NSAID's on gastric mucosa. A clinico-endoscopic and histopathological study.

Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID's) are one of the most commonly used agents in clinical practice today. All these drugs are known to produce gastro-intestinal lesions. In the present study we found that aspirin, indomethacin and phenylbutazone caused gastric mucosal damage in 90.9%, 100%, respectively while ibuprofen and paracetamol caused gastric mucosal damage in 33.3% and 37.5% respectively. Thus latter two drugs were safer NSAID's. Further more we have demonstrated that endoscopic monitoring of the patients on NSAID's is a sensitive method of early detection of gastric mucosal damage. This monitoring may be particularly valuable in high risk subjects on NSAID's.

Effects of commonly used non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs on gastric mucosa. A clinical, endoscopic and histopathological study.

Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) are known to produce gastro-intestinal lesions. In the present work we found that aspirin, indomethacin and oxyphenbutazone caused gastric mucosal damage in 90.9%, 100% and 100% respectively, while ibuprofen and paracetamol caused damage in 33.3% and 37.5% of cases respectively. Thus the latter two drugs were much safer NSAIDs. Furthermore we demonstrated that endoscopic monitoring of patients on NSAIDs is a sensitive method for early detection of gastric mucosal damage. This monitoring may be particularly valuable in high risk subjects on NSAIDs.

On a probability model of open birth interval.

"Many authors [have] pointed out that analysis of open birth interval (the period elapsed from the last live birth till the date of the survey) could be of great interest to study the process of human reproduction, because it directly exhibits changes in fertility due to recent use of contraception or incidence of secondary sterility. Moreover, open birth intervals may be chosen to study the linkage between fertility and migration. A probability model for describing variations in the length of open birth intervals has been applied separately to couples with both spouses present at home, and to couples with one spouse having migrated away. The model has then been applied to [survey data for India] to get an estimate of the risk of conception and of secondary sterility." (SUMMARY IN ITA AND FRE)
