In 276 gynecological cases the ratio of anaerobic and aerobic germs was investigated. Cultures took place under criteria sufficient for anaerobic and aerobic bacteria as well. Aerobic germs were predominating (55.4%), while anaerobic germs (bacteria) were to be found in 35.5% of cases. The breakdown reveals Bacteroides in 72%. The significance of anaerobic germs (bacteria) derives both from their pathogenicity and their frequency and depends additionally on the origin of the samples. In samples derived from the cervix or the vagina it must be considered anaerobics being a normal finding having been detected in 38.5 and 40% respectively in the own material. In bartholinitis or abscess of the labia and in intrauterine devices 48,4 and 12.5% anaerobic germs are to be found. In pyosalpinx and tubo-ovarian abscess all anaerobic cultures were negative. The same was true for 80% of aerobic cultures of the same origin. These findings are most likely due to a preceding antibiotic therapy. In contrast anaerobics constantly were to be found in abscess of cul-de-sac and pyometra. These facts should be taken into consideration in selecting an appropriate antibiotic therapy.
A vival toxoplasmosis infection was diagnosed in 188 cases (3,8%) out, of 49,582 pregnant women routinely screened. 4 children live with congenital toxoplasmosis. Follow-up studies showed that 33 children have specific antibodies, 5 are with suspect clinical findings. Therefore is the conclusion that more late signs of connatal toxoplasmosis are to be detected by follow-up investigations.
A female small for date infant (BW 1500 g) was delivered after uncomplicated pregnancy in the 36th week of gestation. On routine screening for toxoplasmosis a negative SFT had been obtained in the 13th week of gestation. The second examination in the 32nd week was positive (SFT 1:16384). The mother was then put on specific chemotherapy (sulfametoxydiazine and pyrimethamine). The infant, however, had severe- and characteristic lesions (cerebral calcifications, chorioretinitis) not responding to therapy. Morphology of the lesions and serology led to the conclusion that the infant was infected between the 17th and the 24th week of gestation and that the disease remained undetected until the 32nd week, when treatment came already too late. This indicates that in case of a negative test further serological examinations should be carried out at closer intervals to establish the diagnosis in due time.

20 patients with pathospermia and asymptomatic bacteriospermia of more than 10(5) bacteria/ml received an oral treatment with 800 mg Norfloxacin daily for ten days. An complete spermiogram including motility assessments with laser-Doppler-spectroscopy, round-cell counts, evaluation of number and types of microorganisms was performed before treatment and within one week after treatment. As results, a statistically significant decrease of number of bacteria and round-cells was observed in the ejaculates, whereas the other spermiogram-parameters remained unchanged.
