Blood viscosity measured by rotational viscosimeter in patients with old or acute myocardial infarction was significantly higher compared to healthy controls. A positive correlation could be observed between blood viscosity and other parameters like haematocrit, fibrinogen, globulin as well as total protein, total lipid and cholesterol concentration. When logarithmic expression of viscosity was used, the coefficients of correlation decreased except for the correlation of blood viscosity with the total protein concentration. With the haematocrit level held constant, the coefficients of (partial) correlation between blood viscosity and the parameters of lipid metabolism (cholesterol, total lipids, triglycerides) substantially increased.
During an examination of a group of 63 patients with chronic ischaemic heart disease and condition after myocardial infarction the viscosities measured with the help of a rotation viscosimeter lay clearly above the values of good reference persons. There were positive correlations of the blood viscosity to the haematocrit value, fibrinogen level, globulin content as well as to the total protein, total lipid and cholesterol level. In the transition to the logarithm of the viscosity the measure for the linear dependence with the exception of the total protein level became smaller. A formation of partial correlation coefficients by means of the exclusion of the haematocrit in every case resulted in increasing coefficients r for the investigated parameters of the lipid metabolism cholesterol, total lipids and triglycerides.

9 patients with chronic pyelonephritis were given gentamicin intramuscularly in an appropriate dosage for a period of 10 days. The urinary excretion of cells, protein, alanine aminopeptidase (EC 3.4.11.2),N-acetylglucosaminidase(EC 3.2.1.30) and alpha-galactosidase (EC 3.2.1.23) was determined daily. The most striking enzyme increase occurred in alanine aminopeptidase. The enzyme and protein output appears to be rhythmic and discontinuous. A 2--3-day rhythm is suggested. Rhythmic alterations of the digestion activity of the lysosomes are assumed to be the cause of these changes.

40 patients with cardiogenic shock in consequence of contractility insufficiency of the heart were treated with high doses of prednisolon for short time. In 10 cases a good result of the treatment was to be seen so that the lethality quota was smaller than that of a reference group of the same age. The pharmacodynamic effect is seen in an improvement of the micro-circulation by a peripheric vasodilatation. 10 patients with acute myocardial infarction got a therapy with glucocorticoid combined with a treatment with anti-coagulants during the first both weeks. In this connection modern experimental examinations of animals are discussed which showed that glucocorticoides improve the anoxy tolerance of the heart muscle cell.
In 34 healthy normal persons (19 females, 15 males) measurings of the blood viscosity in 7 shearing degrees between 218.7 and 1,312 sec-1 with the rotation viscosimeter Rheotest 2 were carried out. In the medium shearing degrees a large degrease of viscosity with increasing shearing degree was to be established, which corresponds to the structural-viscous behaviour of the blood. In high shearing degrees this decrease of viscosity was only slightly to be proved. As explanation for this we increasingly regard Newton's flowing qualities of the blood in high flowing speed. Statistically ascertained correlations between the height of viscosity and the haematocrit value, the number of erythrocytes and the level of plasma fibrinogen within the normal groups could be performed.
In marked chronic obstructive pulmonary emphysema, especially in the classical emphysematous type of abnormal thorax, a good correlation can be found between the anteroposterior expansion of the thorax, the reduced inspiratory capacity, the clinical state, disturbed mechanics of breathing and the x-ray-state. On the contrary, in clinical emphysema of a lower degree, especially in subclinical, i. e. in predominantly asymptomatic pulmonary emphysema of the elderly, the effectiveness of the roentgenological examination is very small.
