[Bacteriological findings in patients with cholelithiasis and duodenal diverticuli].

In a prospective study of 70 patients with duodenal diverticula and calculous biliary tract disease, bacteriocholia with typical intestinal bacteria was found in 69%, whereas in cholelithiasis without duodenal diverticula this complication was present in 30% of the cases. With growing distance between duodenal diverticula and the papilla of Vater the rate of bacteriocholia decreases. Rising age of patients results in augmentation of bacteriocholia. Bacteriocholia on the basis of duodenal diverticula seems to present an additional pathogenetic factor for inflammatory biliary tract disease in 69% and for pancreatitis in 20% of the cases. Consequently the pathologic value of diverticulas close to the papilla of Vater is more prominent than reported so far.

[Histocompatibility of porous ceramics in the jaw bones of Cavia cobaya].

Porous ceramic basically fuses hard in osseous connective tissue of the jaw if closed implantation has been successful. The date were derived from ground serial sections in different postoperative intervals. Light, fluorescence (after intravital staining), and scanning electron microscopy were used for the evaluation. The positive results obtained with this test series do not imply that porous ceramic material used as root replacements persists under normal masticatory stress and in the same type of tissue.

[Experimental research on the contrast production of the chemical elements with the atomic number 1-83 in a computer-total-body-tomogram].

The contrast production for the chemical elements with the atomic numbers Z = 1-83 were determined by computer-tomography. With the formula relation of the delta-number and the atomic number can one compute the contrast production of any chosen chemical compound. Iodine-free and inorganic iodine-containing contrast media are examined for their contrast production and compared with presently used organic iodine-containing contrast media. The contrast enhancement of organic contrast media in tissue are discussed.

[A new method for combined auto-alloplastic tooth reimplantation with a parallel A1203-ceramic root].

The operative procedure for partially replacing the root with A12O3 ceramic represents a good possibility for preserving teeth in which the pulpa is devitalized. The method used in connection with the well known autoplastic reimplantation not only presents an alternative to the traditional apicoectomy but also provides additional stabilization of the tooth by lengthing the root with cocotostabile and biocompatible A1203 ceramic. The method was tested in humans and monkeys. Argumentation was based on histological examination via light microscopy.

Immunological studies of hsv-infection of resistant and susceptible inbred strains of mice.

DBA/2 mice were found to be quite susceptible to infection with herpes simplex virus (HSV) while C57BL/6 mice and F1 hybrids between the 2 strains were relatively resistant. This difference was most marked after ip infection, but could also be demonstrated after intracerebral, intravenous or subcutaneous infection. In both strains the LD50 was considerably higher after ip infection than after iv infection, and a dose of X-irradiation was required to kill the mice by sc infection. A/J and BALB/c mice were equally susceptible after ip infection but differed significantly after iv infection. C57BL/6 were made susceptible to ip infection by immunosuppression with antilymphocyte serum or cyclophosphamide. LPS, when given simultaneously with HSV also markedly increased the susceptibility of C57BL/6 mice. Susceptible DBA/2 mice which surrvived a low dose of HSV ip were not immune but C57BL/6 mice surviving a high dose were immune against rechallenge. Both strains of mice could be protected by an apathogenic, tissue-culture-attenuated strain of HSV against infection with the virulent strain. They could also be protected by iv injection of a sublethal dose against a lethal ip infection.

[CT-tomometry. Part 1: Inhomogenities of tissues--treatment planning (author's transl)].

By experiments at the CT-total-body-scanner we have related to each other the delta-Nrs., chemical constitution, and density of chemical compounds and of tissues of men. For the bone tissue the relation between delta-Nr., Ca-concentration, and density is given in tabular. The uncertainties of the relations evaluated by experiments are within the acceptable values for the most cases occurring in treatment planning. In the second part we will extend the relations to the application of contrast enhancement in the diagnostic.

[Surgical treatment of lymphoedema (author's transl)].

Aetiology, pathogenesis, staging and the conservative and operative treatment of the lymphoedema are discussed. Only in 14 to 22% of all lymphoedema an operative treatment is required. Operative treatment is only indicated after the failure of conservative treatment. The latent (stage I) and the reversible (stage II) lymphoedema rarely demand an operation. Only the lymphovenous shunts or lymphadenovenous shunts may be indicated in stage II. In the irreversible lymphoedema (stage III) and in the elephantiasis (stage IV) the following operations have been developed: ligature of ectatic lymphtrunks, peripheral lymphovenous and lymphadenovenous shunts, skin-flap transplantations, free or pediculated transplantation of the greater omentum, lymphangioplastic operations (Thompson-operation) or excisional operations (Servelle-operation). The therapeutic principles of these operations are shown and late results are discussed.
