[Treatment of chronic arterial circulatory disorders. Double blind trial with Trental 400 (author's transl)].

For the objective determination of its efficacy, Trental 400 was examined against placebo in a double blind trial in 40 patients with chronic peripheral circulatory disorders and concomitant symptoms of cerebro-vascular insufficiency typical of age. Treatment lasted 7 to 8 weeks with a dosage of 1 tablet 3 times a day. Trental 400 was significantly more effective than placebo in the treatment of peripheral and cerebral disorders. The preparation was well tolerated, subjectively and objectively.

[Determination of skull volume (author's transl)].

Various means for indirect skull volume determination were investigated. For this purpose--the procedure of direct measurement of skull volume was improved first, using a latex method. The examinations were carried out on 20 macerated skulls, which were x-rayed in the usual manner and stereoscopically also. Various distances and planes were then determined from the radiographs and varied calculations carried out. From these calculations it appears that skull volume can be simply determined most accurately from the product of transverse diameter (greatest width) and the area of median plane.

[Intra-articular osteoid osteoma: a rare cause of coxitis].

Osteoid-osteoma is a frequent benign tumor of the bone. In cases with peri- or intraarticular localisation symptoms suggestive of arthritis may occur. We report on a 25-year-old patient with a painful hip during exercise as well as in the night. Conventional radiographs were unremarkable. However, ultrasound and computertomography revealed joint effusion of the hip. Scintigraphic and tomographic findings were compatible with an osteoid osteoma. Histology of the surgically removed tumor confirmed this diagnosis. Moreover, a lympho-follicular synovitis was found.

[Ultrasound findings in chondrocalcinosis].

The diagnosis of chondrocalcinosis is based on typical radiographic findings and synoviaanalysis. We examined 10 patients with chondrocalcinosis to see whether pathognomonic findings of the disease could also be seen by ultrasound. Ultrasound and x-ray findings were compared. Calcifications of the knee menisci were seen by ultrasound in all patients (10/10). Moreover, in three of six patients calcified carpal disci were observed by ultrasound. Joint mouse, exostosis and calcinosis of the capsula could be demonstrated by ultrasound in all instances. In one case the joint mouse was only seen by ultrasound; tomography finally confirmed this diagnosis. Though ultrasound findings in chondrocalcinosis cannot be considered pathognomonic, typical changes of the diseases can be found by this technique. Since ultrasound is a method of increasing interest in rheumatic diseases, those findings may initiate the consideration of the diagnosis.

[Renal malacoplakia--a rare diagnosis. Imaging with sonography and computerized tomography].

A 61-year-old man with septic enophthalmitis and cramps in the upper abdominal region, fever and leukocytosis was admitted to hospital. Ultrasound examination revealed an inhomogenous enlargement of the left kidney with normal conturation and swollen, in part almost transonic, renal parenchyma. In the area of the left kidney CT demonstrated an enlarged tumor with inhomogenous and destroyed structures. The left kidney was removed. Histology confirmed the diagnosis of renal parenchymal malakoplakia.
