Ileocecocystoplasty: some radiologic observations.

Ileocecocystoplasty was used in eight carefully selected patients to enlarge diseases urinary bladders. Postoperative radiologic evaluation often demonstrates bizarre findings, requiring knowlege of the surgically created anatomy and physiology of the ileocecal segment for accurate interpretation. Details of the surgical manipulations and pertinent radiographic observations following this operation are presented.

Predicting tomographic levels for urography.

Based on a retrospective and prospective analysis of more than 200 consecutive patients undergoing excretory urography, the authors formulated a chart for determing optimum tomographic levels using the anteroposterior abdominal distance as a criterion. the renal contour was visualized satisfactorily in 93% of cases.

On the use of Pantopaque in renal cysts.

Local Pantopaque instillation receives continued support in the urologic and radiologic literature as a method for treating benign renal cysts. If benign renal cysts are a common lesion with an exceedingly small complication rate, what is the rationale for such treatment with a potentially hazardous substance?

Localized giant pseudopolyposis in ulcerative colitis.

A case of localized giant pseudopolyposis in ulcertative colitis is discussed in which a mass effect mimicked tumor. The fulminant collection of pseudopolyps was palable in the epigastrium on physical exam and caused a partial obstruction to the retrograde flow of barium. Carcinoma is a worrisome possibility in ulcerative colitis, but localized giant pseudopolyposis may also present as a mass.

Percutaneous renal cyst puncture: unusual results in 2 cases.

Percutaneous puncture and aspiration were used successfully in 2 cases: 1) a calcified benign renal cyst and 2) a grossly infected benign renal cyst. Percutaneous aspiration might be a useful procedure in either calcified or infected renal cyst. If percutaneous puncture is contemplated in a calcified ring lesion, preliminary angiography is strongly recommended to exclude possible renal artery aneurysm or arteriovenous malformation.
