It is described the behaviour of the performance capacity of the cardio-pulmonary system during aging. The maximal O2-uptake declines beyond the third decade of life. The average mas has lost 1/3-1/4 of his earlier maximal performance capacity with the 60 year of life, the woman ca. 1/4-1/5. The causes are named. It follows a description of the work reaction of the cardio-pulmonary system during dosed ergometer strain. The influence of an endurance training on the untrained persons of the 7, decade of life is qualitative the same as in the young person. That applies in particularly for the aerobic capacity and the maximal stroke volume. Optimum kinds of sports are endurance sports with a low value of the quotient: (Formula; see text).

The thin-layer chromatography of imipramine on silica gel plates was studied in fifteen solvent systems. The mobility of imipramine labeled with deuterium in the methyl groups of the dimethylaminopropyl side chain differs markedly from that of unlabeled imipramine. Partial or complete separations between unlabeled and deuterated imipramine were observed in all basic and neutral solvent systems investigated, but not in weakly acidic solvents. Isotopic fractionations of imipramine were also found on alumina thin-layer plates, but were not detected in cellulose chromatography. In all thin-layer isotopic separations, the unlabeled compound migrates more rapidly than the deuterated molecule. These results can be explained by a stronger basicity of deuterated imipramine relative to its unlabeled counterpart.

The photoperiodic influence (LD 16:8 long photoperiod, LD 8:16 short photoperiod) on the morphology and the androgen receptor level of the epididymis and the ductus deferens of Phodopus sungorus was investigated. Under short day-conditions, the wet weight of the epididymis is reduced to 5-6%, the diameter of the epididymal duct and of its lumen are reduced, the height of the epithelium and the thickness of the smooth muscle layer are increased. Number and size of epithelial and smooth muscle cells are not changed, no atrophy of the smooth muscle cells is found. The loss in wet weight during short photoperiods is discussed in relation to the loss of stored sperm and luminal fluid. The wet weight of the ductus deferens is decreased to about 30% at short photoperiods, the total length of the organ, its diameter and the luminal diameter are decreased. The height of the epithelium is slightly, and the thickness of the smooth muscle layer is strongly, reduced, the latter due to an enormous atrophy of the smooth muscle cells. The androgen receptor content of the epididymis (per pair of organs) is reduced to about 5%, that of the ductus deferens to about 10% of the values found at long photoperiods, indicating a significant loss of androgen receptors with low circulating androgen levels.
