The adhesability and behaviour of ceramic facings of telescoping adhesive elements from baked alloys were tested in prolonged experiments. It was shown that these materials stand up to all requirements if their preparation was properly carried out.
Macroscopic and microscopic findings made in the gingiva, lip, tongue and pulp tissue of monkeys show that from the histological viewpoint there are no objections to the use of Nd:YAG for sealing dental enamel and dentin.
Tests made with Nd: YAG laser showed that it is possible to seal the surface of teeth with laser radiation using energy densities of 10 J/cm2 to 50 J/cm2. In-vivo experiments with monkeys did not show any demage to the pulp when these energy densities and radiation close to that in the dental office were applied.
In an animal experiment the use of the biologic binders collagen and fibrin for the temporary stabilization of the shape of granular hydroxyl apatite grafts has been tested. A simple way of producing a hydroxyl apatite fibrin paste involves the use of a thrombin solution diluted to 1 i.u./ml. The fibrin-bound polygonal granules (Interpore 200) studied did not grow denser during the interposition of fibrous tissue, while the molded specimens of collagen-bound granules (Alveoform) underwent condensation involving a 30% decrease in intergranular distance.
