[Results of surgical treatment of lesions to the capsule and ligaments of the knee joint (author's transl)].

Between 1971 and 1979 60 patients with fresh lesions of the knee joint ligaments were treated surgically in Giessen. 37 of these patients could be followed-up two years after the accident. Seven patients from 1979 were excluded due to the shortness of time. A scheme of evaluation with different criteria was established. In 17 patients -- almost 50% -- a good, in another 17 a satisfying result was achieved. In three cases, whose injuries and complications are described in detail, the outcome was poor.

[Clinical and radiographic diagnosis of fractures in childhood (author's transl)].

The diagnostic procedure followed in cases of childhood fractures consists of positive identification of the fracture type (greenstick, complete, or open fracture) and also determination of the degree and age-specific tolerance limit of axis deviations. This diagnostic procedure also includes decisions concerning indications for operative or conservative therapy, and lays great emphasis on the identification of epiphysial injuries. If function is to be fully restored, the extent of injuries must be rapidly determined. Long-term injuries are identified at follow-up examinations and can then be corrected surgically.

[Internal fixation with soft-tissue lesions: fracture with nerve damage (author's transl)].

Typical nerve damage after fractures due to the topographical proximity of the nerves to the bones, are shown and therapeutic principles are discussed. Primary traumatic lesions are differentiated from so-called "creeping paralysis". The methods of choice are neurolyses, nerve suture or transplantation, each at the appropriate time. Evaluation of 83 of the 128 Patients undergoing microsurgical operations on the nerves in recent years is presented after re-exmination by independent neurologists. One-third showed definite signs of regeneration, more than one-third had good functional results, and poor results were recarded for 25 percent of the patients.
