[So-called parietal muscular atrophy].

A case is reported of a tumour in the parietal area with atrophy of upper extremity muscles but without changes in laboratory investigations.

[Polyneuropathy in the course of Hodgkin's disease: case report].

Polyneuropathy in neoplastic process practically may occur in every stage, before clinical signs, together with clinical signs and in the last period. In some percent of patients polyneuropathy may outstrip manifestation of neoplastic process even for many years. We present a 61-year-old patient in whom signs of polyneuropathy appeared before the signs of essential disease - Hodgkin's disease. Our case confirms the necessity of very careful and precise diagnostics of polyneuropathy with unclear aetiology.

Demyelinating Diseases↗

[Neurosarcoidosis or Guillain-Barre syndrome complicating sarcoidosis].

We described a young male with severe Guillain-Barré syndrome in whom pulmonary sarcoidosis was also detected. Based upon the results of diagnostic procedures (nerve biopsy, CSF examination, electrophysiological study) we postulate that this was a Guillain-Barré syndrome coexisting with sarcoidosis, and not the case of sarcoid neuropathy.

[Axonal form of Guillain-Barre syndrome?].

Patient, 19 year old man with rapidly developing motor, sensory and autonomic polyneuropathy fulfilling diagnostic criteria for G-B syndrome is presented. Sural nerve biopsy revealed severe axonopathy, however, it seems due to primary demyelinating process.

Histological and electrophysiological changes of the lower motor neurone with aging.

Maximal motor conduction velocity of ulnar nerve was measured in 7 patients 80-93 years old, who suffered from cerebro-vascular stroke. In 2 cases motor conduction velocity was significantly decreased. Specimens for histopathological study were taken from the spinal cord at the C8 and Th1 segments and from the ulnar nerve at the elbow level on the side opposite to the hemiparesis. In 100 sections of each senile case and in 3 control cases of younger individuals the motoneurons of the retro-postero-lateral nucleus with visible nucleoli were counted. In the ulnar nerve qualitative and quantitative examinations were performed. The study showed a significant loss of motoneurons in the nucleus and a loss of myelinated fibers especially the thickest ones in the ulnar nerve in elderly cases. In teased preparations axonal degeneration and segmental demyelination of some fibers were seen. Morphological changes in some cases, resulted in a slowed down motor conduction velocity.
