[Treatment of maxillary fractures in children and adolescents (author's transl)].

Facial and mandibular fractures in 139 children and adolescents were treated in the maxillofacial surgery department of the University Hospital in Cologne (RFA) between 1st January 1974 and 30th June 1979. A critical analysis of this group of patients demonstrates the manner in which therapeutic directives in the Cologne department are partially modified. Conservative treatment is the rule in children up to 12 years of age. In the older group, aged 13 and 17 years, preference is now given to osteosynthesis by miniaturized screw plates combined with conventional treatment.

[Results and current objectives of Austro-Germano-Swiss working group for maxillary and facial tumors (DOSAK) (author's transl)].

The author describes the creation and field of activity of the Austro-Germano-Swiss working group for maxillary and facial tumors (DOSAK). The first problem discussed by the group was that of the comparison of therapeutic results in epitheliomas of the buccal mucosa, based on the classification established by the U.I.C.C. (Union Internationale Contre le Cancer) in 1973. The objective of DOSAK is to select the statistically confirmed best therapeutic protocols by conducting comparative clinical trials in several centres.

[Data on the preventive removal of wisdom tooth germs].

Prophylactic removal of wisdom teeth was carried out in 559 children during a five-year period in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Orthodontic indications were present in 525 of the children (94%). The number of removed teeth, the operative procedure, the anesthesia, the medication, and the postoperative complications were discussed. The survey points out the focal points of operative prophylaxis in adolescents between the ages of 14 and 16.

[Pathological findings in enosseous and subperiosteal implantations].

Several clinical observations in cases where implantations carried out alio loco lead to severe complications, prompted us to report five of these cases and to clarify with reference to the relevant literature the causative factors which have led to the failures. We hope hereby to contribute to the knowledge possibility of error and the limitations of the indications for dental implants.
