Dynamic contour tonometry (DCT) versus non-contact tonometry (NCT): a comparison study.

In a prospective study we measured the intraocular pressure (IOP) by means of a Non-Contact Tonometer (NCT) and by means of a Pascal Dynamic Contour Tonometer (DCT), and the Central Corneal Thickness (CCT) by means of a contact pachymeter in 294 emmetropic or ametropic eyes. There is a linear relation between NCT and CCT. This linear relation doesn't exist between DCT and CCT. The same measurements were done before and 6 weeks after a Lasik intervention in 58 myopic eyes. Lasik intervention influences NCT but doesn't influence DCT.

The combined IOP and CCT measurement in glaucoma screening.

In a prospective study we measure the intra-ocular pressure (IOP) by means of a pneumotonometer and the central corneal thickness (CCT) in 245 healthy emmetropic or ametropic eyes consulting in a private practice. There is a linear relation between IOP measurement and CCT. The same measurements are done in 30 glaucomatous eyes and in 16 eyes with ocular hypertension. The mean CCT is similar in normal and glaucomatous eyes (554 mu). In eyes with ocular hypertension there is a manifest elevated CCT.

Glaucoma↗

The correlation between IOP measurement, central corneal thickness and corneal curvature.

In a prospective study we measured the intraocular pressure (IOP), the central corneal thickness (CCT) and the central corneal curvature in 172 myopic eyes before and after LASIK treatment. We find a significant decrease in intraocular pressure. Statistical evaluation reveals a linear correlation between the IOP decrease and the amount of stromal ablation. The IOP and corneal curvature are measured in 21 hyperopic eyes before and after LASIK treatment. We do not find a change in the IOP. In a retrospective study of 47 myopic eyes before and after RADIAL KERATOTOMY we find no change in IOP. We conclude that CCT is important in evaluating the IOP and that corneal curvature has little effect on IOP measurement.

Metipranolol associated granulomatous anterior uveitis: not so uncommon as thought.

Two case reports of bilateral granulomatous anterior uveitis are described in patients with open angle glaucoma treated with metripranolol 0.6% eye drops. Several cases have been described in the United Kingdom and recently in the United States. In my opinion this reaction is not so uncommon as thought. Possible causes of this phenomenon are proposed keeping in mind that a hypotensive drug can cause intra ocular pressure rise. The incidence of similar cases seems to increase.

Presumed inflammatory maculopathies.

The macular disorders are classified according to the originally affected layer and the probable cause of the disease: presumed inflammatory or traumatic, iatrogenic, toxic, metabolic or trophic, and hereditary. Three young female patients are reported who had presumed inflammatory diseases: CBPE-complex (APMPPE), pigment epithelium (pigment epitheliitis), and neuroretina (acute macular neuroretinopathy). APMPPE is considered to be a choriocapillaritis closely related to a soft photocoagulate. They recommend careful follow-up of acute neuroretinopathy because through "disuse" a disease of one layer may progress to other layers as they are metabolically interdependent.
