[Sterility--a woman's concern? Coping behavior and partnership structure of sterile couples of various diagnostic groups].

Three groups of sterile couples with functional, tubal and andrologically caused sterility were compared for the evaluation of sex- and diagnosis-dependent kinds of overcoming of their disease. Anamnestic data, anxiety, the coping strategy of sterility and as well the couple and personality structure are analysed. Independent of the organic cause of sterility the women showed a higher emotional reaction level (anxiety, coping stress) than their husbands. In all groups the "healthy" partners dominate. The subfertile men seem to be more subordinate, less engaged and interested and not so anxious as their wives and as the husbands of tubal sterile women. The healthy women with andrologically caused sterility present a highly emotional engagement in the overcoming and treatment of their disease. Possible emotional mechanisms and social stereotypes of self-presentation are discussed, which may cause the intense engagement of the women independent of the organic cause of sterility.

[Clinical experience with a self-assessment scale for detecting organic psychological syndromes in cerebrovascular insufficiency].

Cerebrovascular insufficiency is of great importance from the aspect of social medicine. Using a range of self-assessment conceived for ambulatory use, the authors tried therefore to detect it in an early stage to make prophylactic provisions possible. The range of self-assessment comprises 25 questions pertaining to specific symptoms. The patient indicates the replies on a five-grade verbal and digital scale. In addition to the evaluation of the content, the total value which can be easily calculated indicates the grade of manifested psychosyndrome as the basis for a reduced performance of the brain. The evaluation takes age-dependence into account. In the submitted paper results of a comparative examination are presented. The authors compared subjects with confirmed organic psychosyndrome (psychometry, PEG, CT etc.) with a control group of subjects without reduced brain performance. Both groups differed significantly at the 1% level of significance. The authors selected as the third group neurotic subjects who reported similar difficulties but their intensity was significantly smaller than in subjects of the examined group. Finally the results of the range of self-assessment were compared with differential therapeutic results (vasodilatating agents, nootropic agents).

[The role of anxiety as a psychological co-factor in invasive treatment of sterility].

To prove the importance of anxiety as a disturbing factor during invasive sterility therapy 87 women of an IVF- and GIFT-series were investigated by a standardized anxiety inventory. We could not find any direct relations between breaking off stimulation and a striking level of anxiety. The role of anxiety as a co-factor in the different kinds of sterility management will be discussed.

[Multicentric retrospective study on the carcinoma of lips and oral mucosa. Analysis of coherence between pre- and posttherapeutical categories of classification].

The coherence between prae- and posttherapeutical TNM findings had been checked up in a multicentrically registered patient material of 2,481 non-praetreated plate epithelium carcinomas of the lips and oral mucosa. Whereas the extension of the tumour has in the main been the same, the findings on lymph nodes had a trend showing essential deviations. In a two-dimensional examination of 851 histologically prepared preparations of lymph nodes, a prognostic relevance acc. to metastases had been registered for the characteristics palpation finding of the lymph node, tumour extension, tumour infiltration. Multidimensional analyses have to be realized.

Carcinoma

[Epidemiologic study of new cases of intraocular tumors in East Germany 1961-1980].

The incidence of malignant tumors of the eye (ICD 172.1, 173.1 and 190) was calculated from the data of the National Cancer Registry of the GDR. Malignant tumors of the lid represent 1.4% and malignant tumors of the eye 0.3% of all malignant tumors registered. This corresponds to an incidence of intraocular tumors of about 1.0 per 100 000 inhabitants, and an incidence of lid tumors of approx. 4.7 per 100 000. The standardized incidence of malignant tumors of the eye shows no statistically significant change, at 0.85 (1966-1970) and 0.93 (1971-1980) in men and 0.70 and 0.73 in women. The incidence of melanomas of the lid is also unchanged in both sexes. The mean incidence of retinoblastoma in both boys and girls is 0.54 (1961-1980) based on 100 000 children less than 10 years old. The diminution in the incidence of retinoblastoma in recent years is not statistically significant.

Adolescent

[Psychological studies of sterile couples within the scope of an in vitro fertilization program].

The results of a psychological individual and process diagnostic programme at sterility patients undergoing an in-vitro-fertilization and embryo transfer are demonstrated. The women showed an optimistic emotional disposition and negation of conflict or trouble experience during their stay in the hospital. From the day of laparoscopy till embryo transfer a short labilization sets in, i.e. a slight deterioration of the emotional disposition as an expression of a phase of stress compensation. Questions of motivation, partner constellation and special personality characteristics are discussed.

[Retrospective multicenter study on carcinomas of the lips and oral cavity. The role of multiple malignancies].

In a retrospective multicenter study the role of multiple cancer has been assessed in 2481 patients with carcinomas of the lips and oral cavity. In 3.2% of the cases the malignancies developed outside the maxillofacial area. In the majority of cases two malignant neoplasms were found. Most of them were histologically carcinomas. The bronchi and stomach were common localizations in patients with lip carcinomas, whereas patients with oral carcinomas exhibited mainly cancers of the breast, stomach and uterus. Sex-limited multiple cancers associated with oral carcinoma occurred predominantly in women. Surgery is the most common form of treatment. The prognosis for patients with lip carcinomas is significantly poorer when multiple cancers are present.
