OMF treatment consisting of perifocal administration of OK-432 associated with MMC and 5-FU was applied for 37 lesions of 35 cases including 2 with multiple cancer. The results obtained were as follows lesions. Macroscopical efficacy was rated as "good" in 12 lesions (32.4%), "fair" in 24 lesions (64.9%) and "poor" in 1 case. Histological efficacy was assessed as "++" for 10 lesions (27%), and "+" for 16 lesions (43.2%). Taking "+" or higher histologically as "effective", the efficacy rate was approximately 71%. Efficacy rate for metastatic lymph nodes was approximately 61% in patients who underwent a curative operation. Patients who received non-curative operation showed a certain efficacy to some extent. Twenty-one cases were judged as "S2" at operation. 11 cases as "se", and another 10 cases as 2 cases of "ss beta" and 8 cases of "pm" Histologically . Seven cases of "pm" were considered either as "good" or Histological efficacy as "++" in terms of macroscopical efficacy.

Methods for the prediction of intestinal recovery from ischemic injury were evaluated in highly reproducible model of segmental intestinal strangulation in the rat. Systemic variables were minimized and survival was maximized by parenteral administration of antibiotics and nutrient solution, so that necrosis or recovery of the segment itself, not the rat, could be used as an endpoint of experiments. Recovery of ischemic intestine was assessed by two methods: Standard clinical criteria (color, peristalsis, pulsation.) Fluorescence after intravenous fluorescein injection. Findings were compared with ultimate viability assayed by histologic examination of each segment removed 48 hours after release of strangulation. Five distinctive patterns of fluorescein fluorescence were identified, two of which (normal pattern and fine granular pattern) reliably predicted survival of the segment, and two of which (perivascular pattern and no fluorescence) predicted subsequent necrosis. A fifth, coarse granular pattern usually, but not always, predicted non-recovery. Standard clinical criteria were relatively insensitive and could not be relied upon to detect nonviable segments. The fluorescein fluorescence method correctly identified all nonviable segments at the expense of an acceptably low overall false positive rate. This study suggests that the fluorescein methods is the method of choice for the prediction of small intestinal recovery following ischemic injury.
The amino acid sequence of a newly isolated pentapeptide, neo-kyotorphin from bovine brain was synthetically verified to be Thr-Ser-Lys-Tyr-Arg corresponding to the C-terminal portion of hemoglobin alpha-chain. The synthetic neo-kyotorphin showed the dose-dependent analgesia in mice which was approximately equal to that of Leu-enkephalin.
The Cl- activity in the endolymph of the endolymphatic sac and in the cochlear duct was measured with Cl- sensitive double-barreled microelectrodes. The Cl- activity in the endolymphatic sac fluid was lower than in the cochlear duct. A small, positive, DC potential was recorded in the endolymphatic sac. During anoxia, the DC potential decreased while the Cl- activity in the endolymphatic sac increased. The K/Na ratio in the epithelial cells and subepithelial tissue of endolymphatic sac was measured using the LAMMA technique. The K/Na ratio in the epithelial cells decreased after ethacrynic acid injection (60 mg/kg i.v.). These findings suggest that chloride in the endolymphatic sac is actively transported inward and outward.

We aimed to identified cervical ripening at term pregnancy by measuring acid glycosaminoglycans (aGAG) in nonpregnant and immediately postpartum rabbits cervix and body. aGAG was extracted from the uterine tissues by the modified method of K. Anno (1964) and determined by the carbazole method (Bitter, 1962). Components of aGAG were separated by two dimensional electrophoresis (0.1M pyridine-0.47M formic acid in the first and 0.1M calcium acetate buffer in the second) using acetate cellulose strips. aGAG were separated five spots that were identified hyaluronic acid, heparan sulfate, chondroitin sulfate A, dermatan sulfate and chondroitin sulfate C. These results were confirmed by method of hyaluronidase, chondroitinase AC and ABC digestion test.
UNLABELLED: A total of 24 patients who was hospitalized in the Internal Medicine Wards of Yamaguchi University attached Hospital and the university's 3 related hospitals were administered with cefoxitin. The breakdown of the patients treated with cefoxitin was 7 with cholecystitis, 7 with choledochitis and the remaining 10 for the prevention of infections with obstructive jaundice. Daily doses of 2-6 g of cefoxitin were administered for 6-40 days by intermittent intravenous drip infusion in divided doses. RESULTS: 1. Of 14 patients with biliary tract infections, 10 (71.4%) responded favorably with cefoxitin. 2. Of 10 patients with obstructive jaundice used for the prevention of infections, 8 (80%) responded favorably with cefoxitin. 3. No untoward side effects were observed. 4. Cefoxitin proved to be a safe and effective antibiotic in the treatment of biliary tract infections and for the prevention of infections in patients with obstructive jaundice.
