[Thin-layer chromatographic technic for the semiquantitative determination of hydroxyzine residues in animal material].

The solution behaviour of hydroxyzine in water and chloroform (in the strongly alkaline and the strongly acidic range) is utilized to extract it from animal material and to purify the extract. A concentration of 0.01 p.p.m. is detectable in liver, kidneys and muscular substance. 0.05 p.p.m. may be determined semiquantitatively by visual spot comparison. In milk, the detectable amount is 0.1 p.p.m. and 0.5 p.p.m. can be determined semiquantitatively. The recoveries of low concentrations of hydroxyzine are likely to be lower in milk samples than in organ samples.

Metabolic and toxic behavior of phthalimide derivates. I. Fate of imidan in the fetus.

The organophosphate insecticide imidan includes a phthalimide group. Because of the structural relationship to the teratogenic compound thalidomide we have investigated its placental transfer and metabolic fate in rats. Its passage to embryonic tissues could be confirmed. After intraamniotic injection to the first amniotic cavity of the left uteri we could establish a distribution of imidan and 32P compounds throughout the uteri, the concentration depending upon the incubation time and the distances from the place of injection. The half-life of imidan, detected in the exterioized fetuses or in newborns, was 50--70 min. Imidoxon, i.e., the oxidized form of imidan, has a diminished half-life. This fact explicates the presence of imidoxon only in small concentrations after application of imidan.

[Occurrence of chlormequat (CCC) in wheat straw and its excretion in milk following feeding of straw pellets containing chlormequat].

When the herbicide chlormequat (chlorocholine chloride or CCC) was correctly used at 2 kg per hectare at the five-leaf stage of growth, the residues in wheat straw did not exceed 3 ppm. Such residual amounts remained unchanged after storage and pelleting. However, the feeding of contaminated straw pellets to cows did not result in contaimination of the milk detectable by a method which was capable of determining concentrations down to 0.05 ppm.
