Cast impression coping technique.
A laboratory cast impression coping has been designed to capture accurate crown and bridge impressions, even in the most challenging circumstances. The designed technique is similar to copper band techniques and likewise does not require gingival retraction. The design includes a flat, nail-shaped head for proper finger pressure during the wash impression phase. Beads enhance the nail head design, allowing the impression-filled coping to be captured properly in the master tray or over-impression.
Mandibular endodontic-related paresthesia.
A 57-year-old woman sought treatment for mandibular swelling (of two weeks duration), pain, and paresthesia in the region of the left canine and first premolar. The teeth had undergone endodontic therapy; in addition, they partially supported a long-span fixed partial denture. The patient was concerned about the possibility of a serious neoplastic condition. The initial panoramic radiograph demonstrated a large periapical pathology area associated with the first premolar. Eventually, both the canine and first premolar teeth were retreated, although the paresthesia did not resolve for approximately four months. A brief review of endodontic-associated paresthesia is provided, along with a description of the therapy and postoperative radiographs taken 20 months later.
Adding the closed mouth impression technique to a cast impression coping technique.
The closed mouth impression technique is a well-accepted technique for constructing single crowns in an individual quadrant. This article presents two cases in which the cast coping technique was used to create a more stable impression of the preparation itself.
