Mucous membrane involvement in generalized pustular psoriasis: Report of three cases and review of the literature.

Pustular eruptions on both skin and mucous membranes occur in the various forms of generalized pustular psoriasis. Three patients with generalized pustular psoriasis also had an eruption on the tongue resembling geographic tongue; one patient had sterile conjunctivitis. Histologically, the spongiform pustule of Kogoj is common to lesions of both skin and mucosa. We suggest that generalized pustular psoriasis be considered one of the mucocutaneous syndromes.

[Users demands on scientific information systems (author's transl)].

It is increasingly difficult for the scientist to keep in touch with research in his technical field because of the increasing number of publications. Scientific information systems of an electronic nature are probably the only way out of this dilemma. In order to be able to offer the best form of service, the modern documentation and information center must know the exact requirements and wishes of their potential users. In this papter the authors are concerned with the methods and results of such user analyses as they have been carried out up to now, principally in England and the USA. In spite of various insufficiencies of method, the results of these analyses have given many interesting glimpses into the standards of behavior of "consumers" of scientific literature.

[The central bone tumor registry for the Federal Republic of Germany (author's transl)].

Among malignant tumors, bone tumors present a particularly acute problem. Bone tumors frequently occur in childhood; their etiology is completely obscure; early detection is still hardly possible, and the chances of success therefore leave much to be desired. A registry for bone tumors is being built up in the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg, which is to collect epidemiological data on all malignant and semimalignant primary bone tumors occurring in the Federal Republic. The lecturer gives an introduction to the registry and requests the cooperation of German surgeons in reporting pertinent cases.

Stereoisomeric Characterization of Tartaric Acid Produced during l-Ascorbic Acid Metabolism in Plants.

Labeled tartaric acids from Pelargonium crispum apices which had been fed l-ascorbic acid-6-(14)C and Vitis labrusca and Parthenocissus inserta tissues which had been fed l-ascorbic acid-1-(14)C were examined by chemical means to determine chiral configuration. In each instance, label was associated with (+)-tartaric acid.Similar experiments with labeled tartaric acid from P. crispum which had been labeled with d-glucose-1-(14)C or -6-(14)C led to the same result. No evidence was obtained for formation of labeled meso-tartaric acid in experiments described above. The recent suggestion of H. Ruffner and D. Rast (Z. Pflanzenphysiol. 73: 45-55, 1974) that conversion of l-ascorbic acid to tartaric acid in plants is a nonenzymatic process is re-examined in the light of present findings.

Course in basic sexology for medical students.

The present article describes the pilot course in basic sexology for medical students. The duration of the course was 5 days (35 hours). The themes-sex and gender, sexual physiology, contraception, sexual inadequacy, sexual deviations, and sexual counselling-were approached from many different angles. The teaching procedure comprised lectures, group work, and group discussions, internal television, films, plenary discussions, and debates. The course was evaluated by means of the sex knowledge and attitude test (SKAT) given before and after the course. Furthermore an evaluation was given by the students, by a professional teacher, and by a paramedical evaluator at the end of the course. The results showed significant changes in attitudes and knowledge.
