[Effect of vitamin E on transcription in isolated nuclei and rat liver chromatin in normal status and in E-hypovitaminosis].

The effect of alpha-tocopherol on the RNA-polymerase activity in isolated rat nuclei and chromatin from normal and E-deficient rats and the possible role of tocopherol-binding proteins in this process were studied. Some differences in the RNA-polymerase activities of the nuclei were found; however, in vitro added alpha-tocopherol had no effect on the level of the label incorporation into RNA. No effect of alpha-tocopherol on this process was observed after addition of cytosol either. Analysis of chromatins from normal and E-deficient rats revealed no differences in their RNA-polymerase activities. In vitro added alpha-tocopherol increased the RNA-polymerase activity of normal (but not of vitamin E-deficient) rats. Some differences in the RNA-polymerase activities were noted after addition to the incubation medium of the Triton X-100-solubilized nuclear fraction specifically binding alpha-tocopherol. This effect was enhanced in the presence of exogenous alpha-tocopherol. The susceptibility of chromatin from normal and E-deficient rats to DNAse I hydrolysis was also found to be different. It was concluded that vitamin E can influence the RNA-polymerase activity of the nuclei and chromatin as well as the chromatin structure and that alpha-tocopherol-binding proteins are necessary for the vitamin E effect on the RNA-polymerase activity to be manifested.

Animals

[Radical treatment of penetrating duodenal ulcer].

The results of treatment of 450 patients with duodenal ulcer have been analysed. Of them, in 198 (44%), ulcer penetration into the adjacent organs was revealed. An excellent and good results were noted in 80.3% of the patients. Vagotomy with an ulcer excision and subsequent restoration of the pyloric sphincter function in penetrating duodenal ulcer permits to reduce lethality and achieve stable recovery of the majority of patients.

Adult

[Morphological changes in the liver in acute myocardial infarct].

The state of the liver was studied on the 3, 7 and 14 day from the beginning of infarction in 32 cases of extensive acute myocardial infarction. It is shown that in acute myocardial infarction the liver shows simultaneously dyscirculatory, destructive and compensatory-adaptative processes develop. Imbalance of histoenzymatic processes develops at early stages of acute myocardial infarction influencing the mechanisms of compensation and reparation. Of importance is the complex of fibroplastic changes including the reaction of central veins, astral reticuloendotheliocytes mechanisms were formed in the liver and regional lymphatic nodes reflecting the degree of changes of reactivity of the body.

Aged

[Morphologic characteristics of the conduction system in ischemic heart disease].

An autopsy study is presented of 32 cases (age: 45-80 years) with special examination of conduction system of the heart by morphological methods. The patients died of acute and repeat myocardial infarction, ischemic heart disease. The changes were manifested in association of disordered circulatory, destructive and compensatory-adaptative processes that are the background of conduction and rhythm disorders and depending on the degree of circulatory and metabolic disturbances in the contractile myocardium.

[Studies in the automation of human chromosomal analysis. II. The development and testing of a system for the semiautomatic measurement of chromosomes].

The elaboration and testing the "PAUK" system intended for human chromosome measurement is described. The system is based on the semi-automatic measurement projector and computer "Minsk-22". Chromosomes of 83 cells were measured. The system allows to make measurements of chromosomes in the large scale with high precision. The measurement installation can be used for measuring any macro- and micro-objects on photographic film and photographic plate.
