[Spectrophotometric evaluation of hemolysis tests].

A quantitative spectrophotometric method for measuring the hemolysis degree of PVC-biomaterials by potassium hexacyanoferrate (III) and potassium cyanide is presented. By means of this method the physiological valuation of biomaterials proved more exact as to their contents of hemolytically acting substances. In order to define the maximum permissible degree of hemolysis from biomaterials further studies will be necessary. UV- and IR spectrograms of the 70 degrees C and 121 degrees C extracts from biomaterials indicated the presence of substances not yet identified till now. These substances couldn't be ascribed any specific biological effects. An extraction at 121 degrees C is recommended in order to detect hemolytically acting substances.

[Important nuclear medicine research methods in vesico-uretero-renal reflux].

The at present usual nuclear-medical methods in diagnostics and control of the course of the vesico-uretero-renal reflux are discussed. The semiquantitatively evaluated ING or the side-separated isotope clearance and the function scintigraphy are important parameters for therapeutic decisions in the basic diagnosis and the control of the course of the vesico-uretero-renal reflux.

[Simulation of the urological disease picture in pre-existing basic urological disease].

It is reported on four urological clinical pictures which were simulated in different conflict situations by the patient or his parents. On account of the known basic disease the diagnosing is made difficult. Possible causes are discussed. The therapy may be successful only in cooperation with a psychiatrist or psychologist. The refusing behaviour of the patients often renders impossible a final clarification.

[Effect of drugs used for the prevention of urinary calculi recurrence on the growth and metabolism of young experimental animals].

In the animal experiment should be made clear whether several medicaments which stood the test in the prevention of relapses of urinary calculi may be used without any danger also in the infantile carrier of concrements. For this purpose young rabbits high doses of diuretics, kation exchangers, aluminium oxide, extracts of the root of rubia tinctorum, succinimide and diphosphonate were given. Growth and development of the animals were negatively influenced by the medicaments, with the exception of the kation exchanger and the extracts of the root of rubia tinctorum. Numerous animals died under the administration of duiretics. The results of the examinations of metabolism only partly allow general conclusions. The medicamentous long-term metaphylaxis of the urolithiasis in childhood is also to be used like dietetic restrictions under strong indication and permanent control.

[Results of follow-up studies in children with megaureters].

It is reported on the results of after-examinations in children with megaureters. The average interval between first operation and last after-examination is 8.1 years (1 to 14 years). Of altogether 63 children ten died, eight of their disease, including the postoperative complications. Eleven children were nephroureterectomized. In spite of the time of satisfying results concerning the renal function the prognosis is uncertain, particularly of the children with bilateral malformation. The number of the infections of the urinary tract is large and the deterioration of the function due to pyelonephritis is not to be foreseen. Changes or modifications of the operation technique and a strict dispensary care of the children let us hope for an improvement of the results during the next years.

[Complications from reconstructive surgery in childhood].

When urogenital malformations were corrected standard operations have made their way which achieve good results in the hand of specialists. The most favourable form of the supravesical discharge of urine in children are different and, when judged, undergo a temporary change. Combinations of malformations, bad tendency of healing in inferior tissue, intervention in recidivations and complicated courses force to modified operation methods according to the situation. The courses of 4 problematical cases are described.

Double-blind comparison of meglumine iodamide and Renografin-60 for excretory urography.

A double blind comparison of meglumine iodamide and Renografin-60 in bolus intravenous pyelography, using 50 ml of contrast or less, was conducted in 78 patients. Meglumine iodamide produced more dense opacifications, but it also produced a greater number of laboratory abnormalities. All were transient and mild. No serious abnormalities resulted from the use of either agent.

[Gestagen therapy in bladderneck adenoma. III. Clinicochemical findings and course controls in patients with bladderneck adenomas under gestagen therapy].

It is reported on clinico-chemical examinations in 30 carriers of adenomas, who underwent a gestagen therapy lasting 3 months. The treatment was performed in group I in 15 patients with progesterone depot and in group II with depostate. After the end of the treatment in group I an increase of the content of the sodium ions was found. The infections of the urinary tract improved. Neither in negative sense nor in positive sense an influence of the therapy on the other examination parameters was found.

[Influence of anthraquinones on the formation of urinary calculi in experimental animals (author's transl)].

The growth-inhibiting influence of hydroxy-anthraquinone derivatives of root of rubia in various calcium offerings was investigated using a foreign-body bladder calculus model in rabbits. Following oral doses of glycoside-bound and free aglycemics a pronounced calcium-complex binding effect and a significant reduction in the growth rate of the calculi was observed. Use of anthraquinone glycosides to prevent recurrence of calcium-containing urinary stones is recommended.
