[Treatment of diffuse lung fibrosis with D-penicillamine].

Pulmonary fibroses which are regarded as reactive final stage of a great number of pulmonary diseases apart from their unfavourable prognosis may also therapeutically be scarcely influenced. With D-penicillamine a remedy was found which first intervened directly into the collagenic metabolism. Mechanisms of action, therapy indications and side-effects are compiled taking into consideration a broad survey of literature. Together with the casuistic description of three cases of treatment of a pulmonary fibrosis with D-penicillamine is reported on won experiences. As criterion of the therapeutic effectivity the general condition, the X-ray findings, above all, however, functional parameters of the lungs are regarded. When the pros and cons of the expenditure and the high frequency of side-effects of D-penicillamine compared with the changing therapeutic results with this medicament are considered must also thought of the fact of an otherwise not existing possibility of an effective influencibility of the pulmonary fibrosis. Actual tendencies and experiments for the improvement of the fibrose therapy are discussed.

Studies on the platelet radioactive anti-immunoglobulin test.

A platelet radioactive antiimmunoglobulin test (PRAT) has recently been introduced. In the present report, a detailed analysis the influence of varying test conditions (i.e. efficiency of iodination of anti-IgG, cell number, degree of sensitization of platelets, times and temperatures of incubation, frequency of washings) on the results of this technique is presented. A standard procedure based on these findings is outlined. It is shown that the PRAT is two to four times more sensitive than platelet complement fixation for the detection of HLA antibodies.

[Age-dependent adaptation of erythrocytes in the model of haemoglobinolysis (author's transl)].

1. The erythrocyte is suitable as a model of investigating the mechanism of adaptation as a function of aging. 2. By hemolysis experiments in isotonic solutions of various pH-values changes of the resistance of human erythrocytes during the mechanism of aging in the organism are established. 3. In isotonic alkaline solutions the resistance of the human erythrocytes changes according to the "curve of vitability" of the human organism.

[Immunological aspects of syngenesioplastic bone transplantation in treatment of infantile bone tumors (author's transl)].

Bone transplantations are made often in the treatment of benign bone tumours or tumour like affections. Especially at the appropriate infantile illness the use of an autologous transplant may prove impossible. Homologous and heterologous osseous transplants are largely unsuitable, because of the induction of immunological reactions. So called syngenesioplastic transplants let expect a tolerance of the recipient organism. This is a report of the results of clinical, radiological and especially immunological follow-up-examinations of 11 patients treated from August 1974 to October 1976 with syngenesioplastic spongiosa transplantation.
