Two cases of post-traumatic thrombosis of the internal carotid artery are presented, which are of interest because of their relative rarity. A detailed understanding of the pathogenesis and variety of clinical presentations, an adequate appraisal of the diverse proposed treatments, and an improvement in the prognosis, which is poor even in young patients-these await further enquiry and research.

One hundred and three E. coli strains isolated from the intestinal contents of pigs were examined for hemolysis and verotoxin production on Vero monolayer cells. Hemolysins were produced by 18 (17.5%) strains;--hemolysin was produced by 6 strains of which 4 belonged to serotype O149:K91, K88ac;--hemolysin was produced by 8 strains which could no be serotyped; 1 strain produced-hemolysin and possessed fimbrial antigens K88; the remaining 3 strains were enterohemolytic and VT producers. Among the 85 non-hemolytic strains, 11 showed some antigenic properties. Only 3 could be serotyped (O64:K 'V142'; O157:K 'V17' and O149:K91); 4 had fimbrial antigens K88 and 1 strain was K99, and 3 possessed capsular antigen (K89). According to these results it is possible to conclude that both hemolytic and non-hemolytic E. coli strains could be pathogenic.

Determination of age can be necessary in cases of juvenile offenders. We studied the relation between the skeletal development of the hand and wrist and the age, using diagnostic methods of orthodontics. An evaluation of 1109 X-ray pictures of the hand and wrist of boys and girls with an age from 9-18 years showed that there is a stochastic correlation between age and certain stages of skeletal development. Skeletal development is influenced by sex and ethnological factors.

In many countries, Hepatitis is mainly due to virus. A. When improving life condition in a given population, initially there is a tendency to increase the number of cases in adults. We report clinical and laboratory findings in 87 adults with acute viral Hepatitis A in Chile. The rate man/woman was 1.55/1. Mean age: 23.8 years. Clinical forms: icteric classical (77.01%), cholestatic (10.34%), anicteric (8.05%), biphasic (2.30%) and fulminant (2.30%). From 87 patients in consult 1, 64 were controlled at day 15 (consult 2) and 35 one year later (consult 3). Laboratory (means): ALT (UI/L): 856.8, 111.6 and 20.8 in consult 1, 2 and 3 respectively. Correlation between values of ALT and AST (p < 0.0001). Mean total bilirubin (mg%): 6.6, 2.5 and 0.8 respectively. The evolution of Hepatitis A was favorable with a rapid decrease of clinical signs and normalization of laboratory values within the 3 first weeks of disease.
