[The significance of vaginal fluid substances as growth media in genital mycosis].

By means of thin layer chromatography amino acids, lipids and phospholipids were detected in the vaginal fluids of pregnant and nonpregnant women with and without vaginal yeast colonization. Though pregnancy and/or yeast colonization do not seem to alter qualitatively the spectrum of amino acids and lipids of the vaginal fluid, an influence is supposed of these substances - like that of glucose - on growth and metabolism of the yeasts and on the clinical manifestation of vaginal candidosis.

Electrokinetic properties of polymer and glass surfaces in aqueous solutions: experimental evidence for swollen surface layers.

Streaming potential and streaming current measuring techniques have been applied to polymer and glass surfaces to study solid/liquid interface electrical properties. The streaming current technique provides a reliable electrokinetic potential value, preexcluding surface conduction. A combination of both techniques results in experimental evidences for swollen, gel-like layers at (even apolar) polymer surfaces. Protons and hydroxide ions are the potential-determining ions indicated by the dependence of streaming potential on pH. Human serum albumin adsorption at a glass surface is discussed in terms of spatial distribution of the fixed macromolecular electric charges.

[Advances in the radiological diagnosis of VIIIth nerve tumours (author's transl)].

Where there is suspicion from the audiological and vestibular findings of an VIIIth nerve tumour, radiographs of the skull and of the petrous bones (Stenvers) should be obtained. This should be followed by computer tomography with intravenous contrast medium (a plain series can be omitted in these cases). A negative or indefinite scan should be followed by CT performed after air insufflation. Vertebral angiography is valuable as a pre-operative investigation for tumours larger than 3 cm. Ordinary tomography of the petrous bone in sagittal, lateral or stenvers projection or cisternography with air, oily or aqueous contrast medium need not be carried out.

Bacteriological examination of specified-pathogen-free animals: a procedure for small rodents.

Organs of 10 mice or 5 rats were pooled and homogenized. A portion of the homogenate was cultured on several selective and enrichment media. The method was tested by adding various pathogenic organisms to organ homogenates. 10(3)-10(4) microorganisms in homogenates of 10 organs were readily detected. This procedure allows even a small microbiological laboratory to detect a low frequency of infected animals in a colony.

[Abnormal myocardial blood flow distribution with a normal coronarogram in angina pectoris and after myocardial infarction].

It is reported on the selective coronary perfusion scintigraphy in 47 patients with angina pectoris and condition after myocardial infarction, which was performed simultaneously with the coronary angiography. For the paper were interesting the cases with normal coronarogram, but pathological perfusion scintigram. 3 of 25 patients with condition of infarction showed coronarographically inconspicuous vessels. In all cases the perfusion scintigram shows disturbances of regional perfusion, which corresponded with the electrocardiographic localisation of the infarction. In 3 of 22 patients with angina pectoris with normal coronarogram in the scintigram regional changes of the terminal vascular system were established. In 2 cases simultaneously a disturbance of rhythm and stimulus conduction was present, which showed a conspicuous correlation to the perfusion lesions in the septum. In the small intramural vessels haemodynamically effective changes take place which are below the coronarogram. Therefore, the only coronarography is not enough to confirm or to refuse a genuine angina pectoris or an infarction. The selecitve coronary perfusion scintigraphy gives the possibility to prove disturbances of the distribution of regional blood supply without a greater additional load of the patient as to coronary angiography. However, it cannot give evidence on the genesis of disturbances in the terminal vascular system in the normal coronarogram
