Authors report two new cases of oculo-dento-digital syndrome, besides the classical findings concerning the eyes, nose and upper extremities, they noted a relative shortening of the skeletal structure of the ocular maxillary region. This syndrome is thought to be an hereditary disease compatible with autosomal dominant inheritance.
Very low plasma levels of thyroxine with a parallel decrease in the free thyroxine index were observed in 8 low birth weight infants. The tri-iodo-thyronine levels were slightly but significantly reduced and there was a concommitant increase in thyrotropin concentrations. The abnormalities, which were usually seen between the 10th--45th day, were transitory and resolved completely. The possible role of topical iodinated products is discussed.
A thyroid involvement is reported in a 10 year-old boy with histiocytosis X. It was revealed by goiter and hypothyroidism following diabetes insipidus and growth hormone deficiency. Hypothyroidism was exclusively due to the invasion of thyroid by the tumor, while the other endocrine changes were in favor of the histiocytic infiltration of hypothalamus. The exceptional feature of thyroid involvement in disseminated histiocytosis X is emphasized.
