[Erythroleukemia revealed by diabetes insipidus].

A 4 year-old girl presented simultaneously with an erythroleukemia and a diabetes insipidus. The cytologic signs of dyserythropoiesis, the increase of some red blood cell glycolytic enzymes and of fetal hemoglobin, led to discuss the existence of a double population in the red blood cell series. The revealing character of diabetes insipidus, not yet reported, is emphasized.

[Localization of the gene of the glyceraldehyde 3 phosphate dehydrogenase on the distal segment of the short arm of the chromosome 12].

The enzymatic activity of G3PD and LDH-B in erythrocytes has been assayed in three patients carrying a rearrangement of the short arm of chromosome 12. The first patient is trisomic for the whole short arm. The second is trisomic only for the distal part and the third is monosomic for the proximal part. G3PD: Activity increased in patients 1 and 2 and normal in patient 3. LDH-B: Activity increased in patients 1 and 2 and decreased in patient 3. From these observations it is concluded that the erythrocytic G3PD locus is localized on the distal part of 12p, between 12p12.2 and 12 pter, and that LDH-B locus is on the middle third between 12p12.1 and 12p12.2

Metachromatic leukodystrophy. Ultrastructural and enzymatic study of a case of variant O form.

A variant of metachromatic leukodystrophy (MLD), Austin disease, is characterized by a multiple isozyme deficiency of arylsulfatase. A 3 1/2-year-old girl with progressive mental and physical deterioration had decreased activities of arylsulfatases A and B in the leukocytes, shown by acylamide gel electrophoresis. Under the electron microscope, biopsy specimens of the brain and the peripheral nerve showed lamellar structures with socalled zebra bodies in the cytoplasmic processes of glial cells, granulo-membranous inclusions with fingerprint configurations in neurons, and myelinlike material in Schwann cells. Results from our study suggest an intricate nature of this dysmetabolic disorder, which shows ultrastructural changes usually seen in classic MLD, a deficiency of arylsulfatase A only, concomitant with those seen in mucopolysaccharidoses such as Hurler and Sanfilippo syndromes.

[Renal papillary necrosis in an infant].

Report of a case of renal papillary necrosis in an infant, following acute dehydration with cardio-vascular failure. Evolution was favourable and diagnosis was established retrospectively by I.V. urogram.

[Pseudohypohyperparathyroidism or Frame's pseudohypoparathyroidism type I].

Case report of a girl with fibrous osteitis lesions associated with clinical and biological symptoms of pseudo-hypoparathyroidism: hypocalcemia, hyperphosphoremia, absence of increase of phosphaturia (urine phosphate level) and especially of cyclic AMP after parathormone injection, high serum parathormone level. Similar cases described in literature are shortly analyzed. The genetic, pathogenic and nosologic problems of such an association are reviewed.
