(1) The aetiology of dysphagia may be difficult to diagnose when it presents without clinical signs or an associated clinical syndrome. (2) Pharyngeal palsies present in acute and chronic forms. (3) Cinefluorographic techniques are helpful in making an objective diagnosis of pharyngeal palsy. (4) Advice may be given to the patient on head and neck positions during swallowing that is based on the findings of the cinefluorographic examination, in order to alleviate symptoms. (5) Good fluoroscopy, preferably with video-tape recording facilities may be perfectly adequate provided that the diagnosis is considered at that time.
51 patients with urgency and urge incontinence of urine and enuresis have been treated by prolonged bladder distension. At recent follow-up, 16 patients were symptom free, 25 substantially improved and 10 symptomatically unchanged, at a mean of 13 months after distension. 13 patients whose symptoms relapsed after a previous distension or who failed to obtain a satisfactory improvement have had a further distension for a more prolonged period. The early results in this group are not as good as for patients having first distensions, although 2 patients have become symptom free, and 6 have shown a substantial symptomatic improvement.

The natural radiographic appearance of the various bones of the skeleton are described for several strains of laboratory mice. The Harwell substrains of CBA, A and 101 are generally similar and become osteoporotic on ageing. Harwell C57BL have similar, but more delicately chiseled, bones. Harwell C3H mice have bones with stouter cortices and may show osteosclerosis on ageing. CF1 females (donated by Dr M. Finkel) showed osteosclerosis and osteophytic outgrowths when aged. NMRI mice (donated by Dr A. Luz) appeared larger than the pure-strain Harwell mice. In general, mouse bones are simple tubular structures with an ivory cortex and a marrow cavity. Cancellous trabecular bone is scanty, even in vertebrae, flat bones and the metaphyses of long bones. Bone-seeking radionuclides administered to mice lead to skeletal tumours: (a) osteosarcomata, which are commonly radio-opaque to a variable degree owing to calcified tumour bone, but which may be osteolytic, (b) primitive mesenchymal (angio-) sarcomata which are non-osteogenic and osteolytic, (c) fibrosarcomata--which also are osteolytic--and to local or general lymphomata from irradiation of parental cells in bone marrow, but no special radiological features have been found associated with these last-named tumours.

The relative merits of tungsten and molybdenum targets for mammography have been the subject of much discussion. Therefore the spectra and outputs (at constant potential) from molybdenum and tungsten targets, interchangeable in the same tube, have been measured with a Ge(Li) detector and ion chamber respectively. All conditions apart from the target material were unaltered. The spectra have been corrected for the distortions produced by the detector. The effects of filtration on spectra and exposure rates have been calculated and are in agreement with measured values. The spectra and outputs from molybdenum and tungsten targets filtered by aluminium and molybdenum have been investigated and the results are discussed with reference to mammography and the radiography of specimens.

Studies of bladder flow during hydrostatic distention using radioactive clearance techniques and progressive diminution in blood flow as bladder pressure rises. At systolic blood pressure blood flow is minimal. Prolonged hydrostatic distention has been used as a method of therapy in those patients with urgency of urine and urge incontinence with satisfactory early clinical results and impressive changes in the cystometrogram.
