[Aspects of pulmonary rheography in normal subjects (author's transl)].

The Authors studied the postural variations of right pulmonary circulation in 30 normal subjects with rheographic technique. In lying position the rheograms remain without modifications concerning the derivations's area (superior or middle or inferior right pulmonary lobes). In standing position the rheogram of superior lobe increases his area, that of inferior lobe decreases and that of middle lobe remains unvariated. This pattern of behaviour is early modified by cardiac or pulmonary diseases. Also if this technique is easy to perform and in our experience is reproducible, we think that we must accept his limits in view of lack of a very accurate and exact calibration.

[Malfunction of the Smeloff-Cutter mitral prosthesis: echo-phonocardiographic diagnosis in two successfully re-operated cases (author's transl)].

Five cases of Smeloff-Cutter prosthesis implanted in the mitral position nine years ago were investigated with combined echocardiographic and phonocardiographic recordings. In two cases a malfunction was demonstrated and a surgical confirmation was obtained at the reoperation. Normal and abnormal echocardiographic patterns of the Smeloff-Cutter prosthesis are reported and discussed. The Authors stress the importance of combined echo-phono recordings when malfunction of the mobile element of a mechanical prosthesis is suspected.

[Familial sick sinus syndrome. Observations on three cases studied (author's transl)].

Three siblings with sick sinus syndrome (SSS) are described. In each case, electrocardiogram, Hisian electrogram and sinus node recovery time were recorded, both in basic conditions and under the effect of drugs. In two cases a permanent pacemaker uas applied. The clinical and instrumental investigations were extended to 24 out of 33 cases included in the complete genealogical tree; three cases with arrhythmias were identified (atrial and ventricular extrasystoles and atrial fibrillation). From a genetic point of view, the SSS seemed to segregate a dominant autosomic character with a lower frequency of the disease in the descendants then expected, which is probably due to their low age.

[Adverse effects of drugs: syncope due to prenylamine (author's transl)].

The authors report on 4 Intensive Care Unit cases, hospitalized for syncopes due to serious ventricular arrhythmias. They all presented long Q-T and were receiving treatment with prenylamine. Improvements were observed on suspension of the drug, suggesting therefore that during this treatment, frequent electrocardiographic checks, especially for elderly patients, should be carried out. Caution should also be exercised in associations with other chinidinosimiles and hypokaliemic drugs

[Phono-mechanographic surveys of a patient with Björk mitral valve prosthesis and complete atrio-ventricular block (author's transl)].

A study of a patient with Björk-Shiley mitral valve prosthesis and complete artrio-ventricular block recorded the presystolic valve closure with -r intervals equal to or higher than 290 m.sec. After applying a permanent pacemaker, closure of the prosthesis of the presystole occurred when the atrial systole preceeded the spike by at least 190 m.sec. This survey demonstrates that the atrial systole can provoke, by itself, the closure of the mitralic valve.
