[Free and esterified epidermal cholesterol in psoriasis].

The levels of epidermal total, free and esterified cholesterol were studied in psoriatic patients. Lipids were isolated from the areas of psoriatic lesions and from the normally appearing epidermis by the authors' non-invasive surface extractive method. The quantity of cholesterol was given in microgram per square centimeter. Fifty six and 11 healthy persons were examined. The skin cholesterol levels were twice-four-fold higher in the patients than in the healthy subjects. The same levels were noted from the areas of lesion and from normally appearing epidermis. The proportion of an esterified fraction decreased mainly in the normally appearing epidermis areas, especially in severe psoriasis. The role of the findings was also discussed.

[The treatment of psoriasis by efferent methods on an outpatient basis].

In addition to conventional outpatient treatment 165 psoriasis patients underwent hemosorption (100 cases) or plasmapheresis (65 cases). The efferent methods used proved beneficial in 99 (60%) of the patients that got to have normal hemograms, reduced CIC and middle molecular weight peptides levels in blood. The response depended on the disease duration irrespectively of the method of efferent treatment. The remission (1-2 years) was achieved in 79 (48%) of the patients treated who developed neither side effects no complications. Compared to controls on hospital routine therapy, a mean decrease in treatment duration made 10 +/- 4 days. Efferent outpatient treatment of psoriasis is recommended for patients with torpid course of the disease and for those who is ill not longer than 5 years.

[Enterosorption in the combined therapy of psoriasis patients].

The authors consider the clinical efficacy of enterosorption, carried out in 112 patients with various forms of psoriasis. Indications for and contraindications to this treatment modality are defined. Changes in the level of endogenous intoxication in the paramecium test over the course of enterosorption treatment are analyzed.
