First-rank symptoms of schizophrenia in Schneider-oriented German centers.

First-rank symptoms of schizophrenia, such as thought insertion, thought broadcasting, "made" volition, and delusional perception, were introduced for purposes of diagnosis into a German university clinic. Such "Schneiderian" criteria were evaluated in 210 case records. Ratings employed formal definitions. Of 210 records examined, 69 (33%) of the schizophrenic patients had first-rank symptoms. The frequency of finding such symptoms in a group of schizophrenics is compared to other reports. There are considerable differences in frequency of individual symptoms as well as total number of such symptoms across centers, but the use of precisely agreed on definitions of first-rank symptoms may lead to better agreement.

[A preprosthetic-surgical solution for the extremely atrophic mandible].

Failures of reconstructing alveoloplasty, which are known from the literature and confirmed by the author's personal experience, are attributed to the intolerance of the load-carrying denture support. For this reason, it is suggested to perform an extra-oral intervention on the maximally atrophied mandible to reinforce its crest with autogenous bone. A second intervention is necessary in the form of a combination of floor-of-the-mouth revision and vestibuloplasty (method of Rehrmann), the load-carrying support remaining intact at the level fo the alveolar process.

[Current state of surgical treatment of oral cancer].

This paper gives an outline of basic surgical requirements that have to be fulfilled in the therapy of carcinomata in the oral cavity, the emphasis being on progress thay may be expected to be made in three particular areas: 1. Combination with cytostatic agents and individualization of additional radiotherapy. 2. Possible improvement in the immediate restoration of defective conditions due to tumors. 3. Individualization of tactical approaches to the inclusion in surgical therapy of local lymph tracks or channels. It is in this particular connection that the method of functional neck dissection should be critically reexamined in order to find new possible ways of surgical treatment of carcinomata in the cervicocephalic region.
