[Arterial vascularization of the left colon in the fetus].

Study on the left colonic arteries in 15 human fetuses (195 to 360 mm VC). The arterial system was injected 9 times with a mixture of gelatin and Indian ink, 6 times with red coloured stratyl. The left hemicolectomic resections are treated with the Spalteholtz method. The arterial axes are constant: left colic artery, the middle colic artery, the middle branch of the left colic artery, the sigmoïd arteries. A paracolic arch, often branched, was always found, an intermesenteric arcade was sometimes present (20%). Straight arteries became more numerous with function and age. Histologic study showed two types of muscular penetration by these arteries.

Colon

[Gastro-omental cystic lymphangiomas. General review and report of two cases (author's transl)].

Omental and gastric lymphangioma : a general review of cases and two personal cases. Lesser omentum tumors are rare. They exceptionnally arise from the stomach. Pathologic fractures : there are three types of lymphangioma simplex, cavernous and combined cystic ones. Microscopic examination shows that cysts are lined with endothelium and the wall is infiltrated by lymphocytes. Lymphangioma frequently occur in childhood (stomacal tumors excepted). Symptoms are those observed either in abdominal tumors, or in ascitis or in acute abdominal disease. The diagnosis is not established per-operatively. Surgical treatment consists in resection of the cyst or in simple drainage. Post-operative prognosis is excellent.

Adult

[Arterial vascularization of the temporomandibular joint].

Anatomical and radiological study of the arteries of the temporo-mandibular joint in 18 foetuses and 4 adults. Branches arising from the superficial temporal artery, from the anterior tympanic artery as well as from the deep posterior temporal artery are found in all cases. Branches arising from four other arteries did not occur regularly: those coming from the deep auricular artery, from the transverse facial artery, from the middle meningeal artery, or sometimes directly from the maxillary artery.

Adult

[Study of right-left asymmetry of the temporal planum in the fetus].

Study on the asymmetry of the planum temporale by means of brain sections of 17 to 39 weeks old fetuses. There is a left predominance in 60 %, a right one in 25 % and symmetry in 15 % of the cases. Our results are similar to those published about adult brain, and cerebral dominance depends on it. Cerebral lateralisation is congenital and not acquired. There is also direct relation between the length of the lateral border of the planum temporale and its area. Such measure could be undertaken in living persons by means of radiological examination.

Cerebral Cortex

[A curious abnormality of the lesser omentum and the hepatic pedicle].

The author reports the case of a 3 month old foetus whose lesser omentum, normally formed, did not present any vascular or biliary element. Those elements formed together a pedicle at the back of the lesser omentum and entered into the liver at the rear of the caudate lobe. This anomaly probably results from bipartition of the initial mesogastre.

Female

[Anastomoses of the terminal branches of the facial nerve and of the trigeminal nerve].

Study of peripheric anastomoses between facial et trijeminal nerves based on 18 dissections of 13 adults and 5 foetuses. Macroscopic study shows that those anastomoses are similar in all cases on any comparable levels of the face. Semi-macroscopic study on foetuses (coloration by means of gold chlorid) and histological study on anastomoses (by means of longitudinal sections) reveal that either motor and sensitive fibres grow together and join the appropriate muscles, or proprioceptor fibres follow the facial nerve in the opposite direction and then leave it, forming recurrent branches. Cutaneous endings of muscles present a great number of Pacinian corpuscules.

Facial Nerve

[Macroscopic substratum of acupuncture points].

The dissection of supra-aponeurotic macroscopic elements underlying 201 acupuncture loci showed the following proportions: cerebrospinal nerve, 29%; vascular element (mostly venous), 34%; vascular and nervous pedicle, 37%. Thus there is no specific structure related to all the acupuncture loci, but a preferential distribution has been established according to the loci and their therapeutic indications.

Acupuncture Therapy

[Origin of the hepatic artery in the embryo and fetus].

Study of the hepatic artery in 52 human foetuses and 4 embryos. The authors compare their findings to those published on adults. They underline the higher frequency of the hepatic artery arising out of the left gastric artery (67%) in foetuses and embryos, either associated to the common hepatic artery only (55,4%) or to both the common hepatic artery and the right hepatic artery (12,5%). Graphic reconstruction of foetal hepatic arteries shows two important lines of force one coming from the coeliac trunk - the future common hepatic artery, the other arising from the left gastric artery - the future left hepatic artery. At the 19th stage according to Streeter, the definitive disposition is attained.

Female

[Vesico-uterine fistulae].

The authors are reporting 3 cases of uteravesical fistula due to cesarean section or difficult childbirth. They underline rarity of those complications and present a general review of 103 cases. Clinical aspect depends on the kind of the fistula : there may be either pseudo-incontinence, or hematuria-amenorrhea-continence, or a mixed syndrome. Diagnosis is essentially based on radiology examination and operative treatment always gives complete satisfaction.
