This is a case report on a 66-year old woman who suffered from chronic polyarthritis for 15 years and developed a sicca syndrome pattern for 2 years. 2 years later epithelioid cell granulomas were found from a submandibular lymph node as well as from a suspicious area at the epiglottis and the mucosa of the upper lip. Moreover, there was a chronic keratoconjunctivitis and discrete lung involvement. The sarcoidosis on the lip and at the epiglottis disappeared, and lung involvement and conjunctivitis improved under corticosteroid therapy. In spite of above therapy, the sicca syndrome pattern and the rheumatic complaints (osteoporosis) persisted.

Cause for the publication was a primary hepatocellular carcinoma, the clarification of which was performed on an unusual diagnostic way. The consequence of a circular focus near the pleura were differential-diagnostic considerations. By an aimed biopsy and thoracoscopy a malignant tumour could be ascertained, in which case the histologic investigation resulted in the solitary metastasis of a hepatocellular carcinoma. The authors enter the problems of the diagnosis of pulmonary circular foci and of the hepatocellular carcinoma.
In this study, an attempt was made to modify hearing preschoolers' frequent and persistent refusal to interact with profoundly deaf peers. Half of the hearing children involved in a low-key mainstreaming program participated in a special 3-week training program that included discussions about the meaning of deafness, an opportunity to practice communication techniques effective with deaf children, and free-play interactions with deaf children. Prior to the intervention, no differences were found in the treatment and control children's interaction frequencies and duration or in the types of acts used to initiate interactions. Significant differences were found, however, following the heightened involvement. Hearing treatment children began interacting significantly less with the deaf children than did hearing control children. Hearing treatment children also became less responsive to the deaf children's attempts to interact than were hearing control children. While it was hypothesized that increased exposure would result in hearing treatment children using more gestures, touches, and messages incorporating multiple modalities, they came to use significantly fewer of these acts than did the hearing control children. The deaf children remained relatively unaffected by the intervention. These results are discussed in terms of their relevance for other mainstreaming programs and for research on the growth of social competence in general.

A report is given in a case of appendicitis after delivery in childbed. This was the third case of appendicitis within 17 657 deliveries in the gestation of the district hospital in Sangerhausen in the period from 1960 to 1975. The chronic relapsed appendicitis produced a paralytic Ileus. By using correspondent measures (infusional therapy, appendectomy, adhesion solutions) the patient could be cured without any complications. The patient feeled a Douglas-touch of pain that extended especially to the right. This was the only symptom that was noticed by the patient besides the Ileus that had been clinical well defined and secured with the help of x-ray photo.
The upper respiratory tract and the middle ears of 100 suddenly deceased infants and children between 1 month to 6 1/2 years were examinated. Otitis media was found unilateral in 11% and bilateral in 82% of the cases. Comparison with 74 other infants and children showed much less inflammatory processes. One third of the cases of middle-ear inflammation was chronic with exacerbation of the process. Possible correlations between otitis media and sudden unexpected deaths of infants are discussed. Otitis media seems to be important, together with other respiratory diseases. Otitis media alone as a cause of death is seldom. The frequency and the often chronic progress show the importance of the otitis media.
