[Myocardial function of the chronic hemodialysed patient. Evaluation by measurement of systolic time intervals].

Study of myocardial function in chronic haemodialysis patients by the measurement of systolic time intervals reveals an alteration in left ventricular performance. These results are in favour of the hypothesis of a multifactorial cardiomyopathy associated with chronic haemodialysis. In the absent of long standing or severe hypertension, blood pressure levels have no significant influence on systolic interval times, this also applying to the degree of anaemia. The age of the patient and the length of time they have spent on haemodialysis are two cumulative risk factors with respect to altered ventricular performance.

[The blood chloride-phosphorus ratio in the diagnosis of hyperparathyroidism. 31 parathyroid adenomas].

The authors relate their experience in the study of chloremia, phosphatemia and their relationship in the diagnosis of parathormonal hypersecretion states, 31 cases of parathyroid adenoma are compared to 26 cases of hypercalcemia depending on other mechanisms. The studied relationship appears to be interesting in the diagnostic work-up of parathyroid adenoma as well as in appreciating the mechanism of hypercalcemia during the course of other neoplastic disorders.

[Primary bacterial aneurysm of the aorta. 4 cases].

The causal agent was a Salmonella in three cases and a Pseudomonas Aeruginosa in one case. In these four patients there was no evidence of endocardities and the causal germ was verified by the bacteriological cultures of the anevrysmal lesions and/or by the blood cultures. In one patient full recovery was obtained by surgical repair after complete bacteriologic cure.

[The infraclinical diagnosis of lead poisoning (author's transl)].

Laboratory study of 16 workers handling lead made it possible to define a state of infraclinical lead poisoning. Estimation of alpha-dehydrase and of free erythrocytic protoporphyrins is the most sensitive test for diagnostic purposes. The estimation of erythrocytic pyrimidine 5' Nucleotidase would seem to be of value in the diagnosis of mild lead poisoning. The urinary lead tolerance test confirms the diagnosis and indicates the degree of intoxication. Its repetition make it possible to treat the intoxication.
