Some temporal characteristics of eye tracking.

The frequency of occurence and the latency of eye tracking determined by moving stimuli of different velocities (5, 10 and 15 degrees/s) and different durations (between 50 and 400 ms) were measured. The result was that eye movement can occur only if the duration of the stimulus exceeds a critical value. This value depends on the stimulus velocity. The difference between the latency of the movement and the critical duration of the stimulus however remains constant. This difference is interpreted as the time necessary for selecting and releasing the appropriate programme for eye movement.

[Effect of the protein content in the ration of sheep on the development and pathogenic action of F. hepatica].

Examined were two groups of 12 sheep each, infected with metacercaria of Fasciola hepatica. The first group were given a ration that contained 14 g crude protein per kg of metabolic weight, and the second group--a ration, containing 8.24 g, i.e., as much as was fed to animals in the field. In animals that were given higher amounts of protein developed 29.1 per cent less Fasciolae, on an average, and 5.2 per cent less worms reached sexual maturity as against the group that was offered less protein. The higher content of protein in the diet was shown to produce a protective effect against the strong clinical development of facioliasis.

Positional distribution of fatty acids in rabbit lung phospholipids and triacylglycerols and effect of prolonged hyperoxy.

Investigations have been carried out for the determination of the effect of high oxygen concentration in inspired gas mixutre on the positional distribution of fatty acids in rabbit lung phospholipids and triacylglycerols. The following results were obtained: 1. In the phosphatidylcholine fraction, the high oxygen concentration caused a quantitative increase of palmitic acid (16 : 0) at the alpha-position, and of myristic (14 : 0), heptadecenic (17 : 1) and arachidonic (20 : 4) acids at the beta-position. 2. In t-e phosphatidylethanolamine fraction, the high oxygen concentration caused an increase of oleic acid (18 : 1) at the alpha-position, and of palmitoleic (16 : 1) and heptadecenic (17 : 1) acids at the beta-position. 3. In the triacylglycerol fraction such changes were not observed. In connection with these effects of oxygen, its possible influence on membrane structures in the lung has been discussed.

Apex cardiographic evaluation of the velocity of contractile element shortening at aortic valve opening (ACG-VCE-E).

The average values of the velocity of contractile element shortening at opening of the aortic valve, assessed apex-cardiographically in 100 normal subjects and in 63 patients with previous myocardial infarction were 0.60 and 0.53; with correction for preload and values became 0.11 and 0.049 (psmaller than 0.0000006). It is concluded that the proposed concept of expressing myocardial mechanics in terms of displacement curves and indices approaches the problem clinically in a safe way.
