[Estrogen receptors in breast cancer in women].

The estrogenic receptors in the cytoplasm of tumor cells obtained from histologically verified breast cancer in 377 women, 24 to 86 years of age, who had been operated and treated, were investigated. Of 200 women with positive estrogenic receptors in the tumor cells, 120 (60 per cent) were in postmenopause age and 80 (40 per cent) in premenopause age. Of 177 patients with negative estrogenic receptors, 95 (53.7 per cent) were in premenopause and 82 (46.3 per cent) in postmenopause age. The mean arithmetical value of the positive estrogenic receptors in patients in premenopause age was 69 +/- 6.04 fmol/mg protein and in those in postmenopause age--110.52 +/- 7.37 fmol/mg protein. Of 111 patients with positive estrogenic receptors in second clinical stage of cancer, 94 patients (84.7 per cent) survived and 17 (15.3 per cent) died. Of 73 patients in third clinical stage 59 (82.2 per cent) survived and 14 (17.8 per cent) died. Survival of patients with negative estrogenic receptors was lower: of 89 patients in second clinical stage 58 (65.2 per cent) survived and 31 (34.8 per cent) died; of 44 patients in third clinical stage 13 (34.1 per cent) survived and 31 (65.9 per cent) died.

Perception time and reaction time.

Two experiments were performed in order to examine the possible contribution of visual perception time in motor response time under conditions of pursuit eye movements. Subjects had to follow with their eyes a light spot moving horizontally along a reference scale at a constant velocity of 14 degrees/s. Stimuli (the disappearance of the moving spot) were presented randomly at distances of 11.3, 17.7 and 24.2 angular degrees from the onset of motion. In Experiment 1 subjects had to report verbally the scale division at which the stimuli were presented. In Experiment 2 subjects had to press a button as quickly as possible after stimulus presentation. No relationship between visual perception time and motor reaction time was found.

[Treatment of hypertension with obsilazin].

Obsilazin was established to have a good to moderate hypotensive effect in 75% of the treated 36 patients with moderate and severe hypertension under the condition of a 6-month open clinical experiment, not changing the heart rate. The adverse effects are often 69.4%), usually transitory but in 11.1% they proved to be the cause for discontinuation of the treatment.

Sensitivity of 5'-nucleotidase and phospholipase A2 towards liver plasma membranes modifications.

The changes in the phospholipid and fatty acid composition of liver plasma membranes isolated from rats, fed two different diets, containing either saturated or unsaturated fatty acids, were investigated. We established that dietary treatment can considerably modify the fatty acid as well as the phospholipid composition of liver plasma membranes. Lipid transfer proteins were used for enrichment of liver plasma membranes with sphingomyelin, dioleoylphosphatidylcholine, dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine, and phosphatidylinositol. A marked sphingomyelin and membrane fluidity dependence of the membrane-bound 5'-nucleotidase and phospholipase A2 was observed.

[Prediction of the periods favorable for the development of gastrointestinal nematodes in sheep in various climatic regions of Bulgaria].

Bioclimatogrammes have been worked out for the various regions of the country to foretell the periods during which the microclimatic conditions in them favour the development of the preparasitic forms of gastrointestinal nematodes of sheep in the environment. It was found that best for the worms of the Heamonchus genus were the conditions in the May-June period, and in some regions in July too. There were in individual climatic regions conditions that were best in the months of September and October. The preparasitic forms of nematodes of the Ostertagia and Trichostrongylus genera could develop throughout the pastures in almost all climatic regions of the country during the April-July period with a month prior to and after this term as well as during the October November period.

Retinal location and visual localization during pursuit eye movement.

Experiments were performed to measure the mislocation of a brief visual stimulus presented during pursuit eye movements in different places over the retina. The results obtained show that the mislocation for regions 5 degrees from fovea in the direction of motion is greater than in fovea. This fact shows that some kind of reorganization takes place in the visual localization mechanisms during pursuit eye movements. The results cast doubts on the concept of "perception time" which is often used to explain the visual mislocation phenomenon.

Localization of brief visual stimuli during pursuit eye movements.

Experimental findings concerning the properties of the phenomenon of mislocation of brief visual stimuli during smooth eye tracking are described. One of these, which cannot be explained by existing hypotheses, is that under certain conditions the mislocation magnitude tends to have zero or even negative values. A model is developed for explanation of the mislocation phenomenon. It is suggested that localization is based on: (1) information about the current eye position and (2) information about the stimulus locus on the retina. They both arrive at the localization centre with non-zero delays. The mode of information processing in this centre leads to a magnitude of mislocation which is proportional to the difference between the two delays and which could be positive, zero or negative. Factors which influence either delay should also influence the mislocation magnitude.
