By application of a combined mitomycin-/heat treatment after freezing, 7 out of 29 Listeria monocytogenes strains which were found to be non-phage carriers by UV irradiation could release phages. Propagation of the obtained phages was promoted by storage at 4 degrees C. Apart from TNSA plates the application of chocolate plates appears to be necessary in order to study these phages.

Biopon is a generally used detergent containing detergens which does not cause hypersensitivity as was demonstrated by the authors in previous animal experiments. In the present study the authors describe the Haptene character of Biopon which quality could be demonstrated by causing a certain immunological constellation in guinea-pigs on the grounds of a hypothesis. The hypothetical concept consisted in aiding a half-antigen in the organism even in the case of its intradermal injection into a thick immunocompetent cell agglomeration. The authors produced the agglomeration of cells of the skin by means of intradermal injections of alien serum and in with BCG treated animals with tuberculin reaction. Biopon was administered thereafter into the focus by intradermal injection. The presented two aiding methods showed different effects which the authors try to explain by the fact that different adjuvants cause different effects.

The authors have investigated some organic phosphoric esters such as dimethoate, malatione, and trichlorphone in order to see whether they influence the genesis of the reserpine ulcer induced in rats or whether they act on the existing ulcer. Another objective of the investigation was to determine whether the aggravating effect of these compounds on the experimental gastric ulcer can be mitigated or prevented with isopropamide and gastrixon, two compounds known to be used in the therapy of ulcers. It was found that 1. dimethoate and trichlorphone considerably aggravate the genesis of the experimental peptic ulcer in rats, and that also malathione exercises this exacerbating effect still to some extent, 2. that the already existing experimental ulcer is aggravated by all three organic phosphoric esters and that 3. the severe experimental damage to the stomach can be reduced or prevented with Isopropamide and even more effectively with Gastrixon. As to the interpretation of the phenomena observed the authors take the view that--provided the effects mentioned apply also to man--with this a new risk was detected in the field of the chemical plant protection which may well gain importance for the health of a population.
Authors treated mice chronically peroral with microtoxical doses of paraquate, chromiumsulphate, berylliumsulphate and cadmiumsulphate. It becames evident, that the questioned manner of treatment causes a damage of the lungs. It develops an infiltration in the lungtissue, respectively it comes into being a great pulmonary proliferation of cells. Authors emphasize the fact, that the described pathohistological lesion of the lung develops in that case if the poisoning occurs peroral. If the above mentioned phenomenon comes into being on man similarly pneumophthiseology respectively the hygiene enriches with a new problem, with damages of the lungs produced by chemical substances dosed chronically peroral in very small quantity.

Evidence is presented that the excess pool of penton complexes purified from adenovirus type 1-infected HEp-2 cells also carry an endonucleolytic activity. The effect was measured with both E. coli and adenovirus type 1 double-stranded DNA substrates. The use of agarose gels for assaying the endonuclease activity allowed the approximative calculation of the number of penton molecules which might produce one DNA double-strand break under the experimental conditions selected.
The authors report on the isolation of 13 Listeria monocytogenes strains of healthy human subjects which, within serogroup 4, contain at least four variants of known Listeria antigens, but wound not fit into the grouping system that has been in use.
Experiments were performed on male rabbits observing the changes in the fractions of protein, glycoprotein, lipoprotein and lipid of the blood. The effect of scarlet R and p-dimethylamino-azobenzene (methyl yellow) was examined. When a solution of scarlet R or p-dimethylamino-azobenzene in paraffin oil was injected into the testicles of the experimental animals the effect was different from any other route of introduction. p-Dimethylamino-azobenzene caused no significant change in the macromolecular fractions of the blood, while scarlet R injected into the testicles caused a significant increase of the total lipids in the second week after the exposition. This effect did not occur when scarlet R was introduced by any other route. According to the authors, their findings may be viewed as a starting point for new approaches to new ideas and ways of thinking.
