A pre-formed methyl methacrylate cranioplasty.

The use of a pre-formed methyl methacrylate cranioplasty prosthesis reinforced with stainless steel wire is described. The prosthesis is non-reactive, virtually unbreakable, and undentable. Pre-forming of the prosthesis in the dental laboratory using a mold of the patient's bony defect as a model saves considerable operating time, and when employed for a large cranial defect the three dimensional cosmetic effect is superior to intra-operatively fashioned prostheses.

Carotid endarterectomy utilizing the exclusion clamp.

Carotid endarterectomy is useful in the treatment of the uncomplicated pre-stroke patient. Use of the exclusion clamp makes possible a short period of carotid occlusion without the use of either internal or external shunts. Forty-two patients were operated on using this technic.

The treatment of acute spinal cord injuries in a war zone.

The clinical course and method of treatment of 43 cases of spinal cord injury from Vietnam are presented. Compared with other wars, antibiotics and more efficient handling have reduced mortality and infection but have not improved the incidence of neurological recovery.
