Two cases of juvenile elastoma (nevus elasticus in disseminated tumors) were histologically and ultrastructurally investigated. The predominant components of this disseminated dysembryoplasia are abnormal elastic fibers. Both cases showed numerous large elastic fibers with an abundant background matrix. The elastic microfibrils were replaced by granular material. In one case, most of the abnormal elastic units remained isolated without forming elastic fibers.
Report of a case of aggressive musculo-aponeurotic fibromatosis in a 14-year-old girl with transformation into fibrosarcoma, 10 years later. The tumoral mass initiated its growth in the nuchal region but finally invaded both the cervical and the right retroscapular region. Evidence for muscular, osseous and neurological invasion and destruction was found. The tumor could be controlled neither by surgery, nor by radiotherapy and chemotherapy. This case report is studied in the light of cases reported in the literature.
An occlusive dressing was applied to the unaffected skin of the back of a patient with familial benign chronic pemphigus (FBCP). Small lesions of FBCP appeared after 48 h, and the ultrastructure of successive biopsies was studied. It was concluded that: (a) the initial phenomenon in FBCP is the result of an insufficiency of cellular adhesion. This confirms several previous reports. (b) desmosomes are separated in two halves, invaginated in vacuoles and later deeply included in the cell. The particular fate of these disrupted desmosomes has already been observed after the action of several enzymes on the epidermis and in Darier's disease.
The authors studied in vitro and in vivo the invasion of the nail keratin by saprophytes. This invasion takes palce in the same way in both cases: mycelian filaments and spores penetrate in the hyponychium, filaments penetrate in the upper part of the tablet, filaments and, as far as some saprophytes are concerned, 'boring hyphae' penetrate in the lower part of the tablet. Those ways of invasion are responsible for the clinical pictures (onychomycosis, pachyonychia, leuconychomycosis). Electron microscopically the mycelian filaments appear to be both intercellular and intracellular. The authors insist in the importance of the criteria of evaluation which allow us to establish the saprophytic origin of onychomycosis.

Cell kinetic of human epidermis has been studied with different techniques of labeling by 3H-thymidine. A review of the literature for human epidermis, psoriasis and some epidermal tumors has been performed and discussed in the light of our own studies. If the cell cycle time seems to be slightly shorter in epidermal tumors in comparison to normal epidermis, this doesn't constitute the fundamental characteristic of the neoplastic lesions. Indeed the most specific alteration in the cell cycle parameters for precancerous and cancerous tissue is a lengthening of the S phase duration. This modification of the DNA synthesis time is perhaps of reflection of the depressed state of the chromatin of neoplastic tissues.
