OBJECTIVE: This study was designed to examine the fluctuation tendency of the anterior teeth coloration during the period of growth puberty. METHODS: One hundred children with average age of 13.3 years, and 100 adolescents with average age of 23.4 years were divided into two groups. The upper left incisors were selected for color matching using computerized spectrophotometery system (Shade-eye, Shofu). The measurements depicting color properties, including hue, value and chroma were quantitatively analyzed. Statistical evaluation was conducted for the comparison of the color measurements between the two groups. RESULTS: The following trends were indicated during the period of growth puberty: (1)The hue of the coloration changed from redness into mixture of redness and grayness. (2)The magnitude of value of the coloration was in decline. (3)The intensity of chroma increased significantly. CONCLUSIONS: The teeth coloration fluctuates within the period spanning the initial and final stages of growth puberty, characterized by a decrease in hue and value and an increase in chroma.
OBJECTIVE: To Compare the antibacterial activity on oral pathogens among six types of nano-silver base inorganic antibacterial agents. METHODS: The oral pathogens selected were Streptococcus mutans(ATCC6715),Lactobacillus (ATCC4356),Actinomyces viscosus (ATCC19246), Candida Albicans (ATCC76615), Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC25923), Escherichia coli (ATCCC25922). Minimal bactericidal concentration (MBC) was determined by Liquid dilution method. RESULTS: Nano-silver base inorganic antibacterial agents had fine bactericidal activity against oral pathogens. The general antibacterial activity of six types were nearly equal. CONCLUSION: It is possible that nano-silver base inorganic antibacterial agents can be used in dental antibacterial materials.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate clinic adaptive effect of speech articulation of patients before and after restoration with complete denture. METHODS: Before and after patient's restoration at the beginning and then at 1 week, 2 weeks, 4 weeks and 8 weeks, the patient's self-judgement and the measurement of Chinese intelligibility by speech pathologist were used to analyse the regularity of speech articulation of edentulous patients restored with complete denture. RESULTS: At the beginning, the patients in two groups all felt uncomfortable of using denture. After one week, patients using metal base denture adapted well, but patients using plastic base denture needed 2 weeks to adapt. The data of Chinese intelligibility showed significant difference between two groups after using denture 1 week (P<0.05). In metal base group, there was significant difference before and after using denture a week (P<0.01). The plastic base group showed this change after two weeks. CONCLUSION: Patient's phonetic function recovered quickly when the thickness of the base reduced and palatal rugae of the denture base restored. The chinese intelligibility of them was better.
OBJECTIVE: To establish the system of the models and the element libraries for prosthodontics. METHODS: Taking jaws and dentition as sample, with the help of the CT scanning and software, such as PRO/E, ANSYS,etc established the 3-D geometry and finite element models. At first, and then, established several kinds of library of the dentition and dentures. At last we discussed the application way of these models and element libraries. RESULTS: Established the 3-D models and element libraries of jaws, dentition and prostheses. CONCLUSION: The 3-D models have favorite similarities in geometry and mechanics. The study verified these element libraries are effective and can be used conveniently.
OBJECTIVE: To establish the library including all elements for the restoration of removable partial dentition defect. METHODS: To design and reconstruct every element that could be used to build up 3D geometry stimulation for any kind of restoration. The restoration made up of elements could be edited and changed easily for proper dentition defect. And the different restoration for the same defect can be got easily. RESULTS: Established the library of all elements for restoration of removable partial dentition defect. CONCLUSION: Established the elements library. It avoided the much work repeated and improved efficiency. The elements were the important base works for the further research on dentition defect restoration and instruction system.
OBJECTIVE: To discuss the application way for element library of dentition and the removable partial denture. METHODS: With the help of some software, such as PRO/E, POWERSHAPE, etc, design the content and structure of the element libraries reasonably, and discussed the efficiency way of usage. RESULTS: We can use the element libraries by the way of "import-edit",and the way of "element group". CONCLUSION: The structure of the element libraries is reasonable and can run effectively.
OBJECTIVE: Discussed how to develop a software for prosthodontics teaching with the models and element libraries of the dentition and dentures. METHODS: Selected the typical Kennedy's types and prostheses, used the kinds of model and libraries, by the way of the image manipulation, we established an applied software. RESULTS: We established an useful software for the prosthodontics teaching. CONCLUSION: The software we developed is effective and editable.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the stress distribution on bone adjacent to an implant under the vertical load, oblique load and horizontal load. METHODS: Obtained three dimensional radiographic data of the jaw by dental CT scan. Based on the scanning sections, the three-dimensional finite element analysis mandible model was established. Loading vertical, oblique and horizontal forces on the implant, calculated the maximum stress, minimum stress and von mises stress. RESULTS: The peak stress occurred at the cervical bone margin adjacent to the implants;the stress concentration under the vertical loading is easily concentrated than that of vertical loading. CONCLUSION: In the clinical designation, not only the force of bite but also the direction of the force should both be emphasised.
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this research was to observe the extension of MRI artifacts caused by keepers. METHODS: Five samples were imaged in a water phantom and a living human subject by 0.15 Tesla magnetic resonance devices. The maximum diameters of artifacts were measured and compared. RESULTS: The maximal diameters of the artifacts caused by disc-shaped and post-shaped keepers were 95.5mm and 139.4mm. CONCLUSION: Compared with the post-type keeper, the artifacts caused by disc-type keepers diminished significantly, and the difference of the maximal diameter reached statistical significance.
OBJECTIVE: To explore the influence of the type of occlusal splint on the masticatory muscles (TA,MM). METHODS: TA and MM EMG during ICP maximal clenching were recorded in 20 dentate normal subjects, when they weared no occlusal splint, relaxation splint and mandibular stabilization splint. RESULT: With the insertion of relaxation splint and mandibular stabilization splint, the EMG parameters of TA and MM during ICP maximal clenching was dramatically reduced (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: The relaxation splint and mandibular stabilization splint can relax the masticatory muscles.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of the study was to reconstruct a 3-D auricular model. METHODS: Laser scanning was used to get the data of an auricular model, Fused Deposition Manufacturing (one of rapid prototyping technique) was chosen to fabricate an ear cast. The differences between the two models were compared. RESULTS: The result showed that the reconstructed model was precise. CONCLUSION: This study suggests that the technique of rapid prototyping is precise, convenient, effective and safe to auricular prosthesis.
