Hypotensive action of prolactin in rats with spontaneous hypertension.

Rats (SHR) weighing 240 +/- 10 g with spontaneous hypertension were given intraperitoneally porcine prolactin in doses from 0.2 to 2000 micrograms/kg of body weight. The systolic pressure was measured before hormone administration and 2 hours after it. It was found that prolactin in doses of 200 to 2000 micrograms/kg caused a decrease of the systolic pressure by 22%. The dose of 20 micrograms/kg decreased this pressure by 9% and the dose of 0.2 microgram/kg by 7.9%.

Excretion of catecholamines by children exposed to atmospheric pollution in the province of Katowice.

The excretion of catecholamines was studied in schoolchildren aged 9-11 years in relation to the degree of atmospheric air pollution with nitrogen oxides, sulphur dioxide and dust in th Silesian industrial region. It was found that atmospheric pollution increase within the acceptable range produced stimulation of the sympathetic system, and pollution exceeding manifold this range decreased significantly the level of excreted catecholamines in children. This was particularly evident in the case of dopamine.

[The morphology of the facial skull in patients with active acromegaly based on lateral-view teleroentgenograms].

Measurements of skull base, maxilla and mandible were carried out from lateral teleroentgenograms of the skull made in 27 patients with active acromegaly. Total anterior facial height and mandibular branch height were found the most increased both in men and women. Bone changes of the skull base and facial skeleton in patients with active acromegaly did not depend on the disease duration.
