A 34 years old woman was admitted to our hospital with a retroplacental hematoma of more than 50% of placental area. It was diagnosed by routine pregnancy screening. The patient had no pain, bleeding or other clinical symptoms. 24 hours after inducing fetal lung maturation by betamethasone delivery was terminated by caesarean section in the 32nd week of gestation. Though the diagnose was confirmed by operation there was no influence of fetal outcome. The management of symptomless ablatio placentae is discussed by literature. Termination of pregnancy should be related the gestational age.

[The prognostic value of the acoustic stimulation test for fetal wellbeing and neonatal status. Controlled acoustic stimulation of the fetus in the last pregnancy trimester].

Fetal heart frequencies and fetal movements were examined in 57 cases simultaneously by antepartal cardiotocogram and by mothers in the third trimenon of their pregnancy. 163 CTGs were monitored and two different groups defined. One group of 34 healthy newborns was compared with a group of 18 small for gestational age fetuses (birth weight less than 25th percentile of birth weight). The fetal heart rate and movements response to sound stimulation was studied. Fetuses appropriate for gestational age showed significantly higher activity in heart rate accelerations and movements following sound stimulation (1-2 kHz, 120 dB, 20 sec.) compared with the group of SGA fetuses. The study showed that the maternal perception of fetal activity is a suitably complementary method to assess fetal wellbeing. Measuring by maternal perception, it could be demonstrated that fetuses appropriate to gestational age reached a higher activity (16.5 p.c. monitoring period) as compared with 8.0 p.c. of fetal movements registered by mothers in the group of small for gestational age fetuses.

[Steinert's disease and conduction disorders. Apropos of a familial study].

The authors reported a new family case of Steinert with twelve years follow-up. The study of potentials in the bundle of his was performed in all patients, showed an intra- and infra-hisian blocks. This study showed a discrepancy between muscular and myocardial evolutive injury, a very important knowledge for follow-up. Conduction disturbances were found in two cases and pacemaker insertion was performed in one patient. The authors specified the indication of electrophysiological studies during the onset and pacemaker implantation in all patient with a typical or suggestive history of syncope.

[Experience with antirabies vaccination of foxes using the oral route coordinated among several European countries and perspectives on the use of recombinant vaccinia-rabies virus].

Campaigns of fox vaccination against rabies were carried out in Belgium, grand-duchy of Luxembourg and France in September 1986, June and September 1987. The SAD B19 attenuated strain of rabies virus, contained in baits (Tübingen baits) was used as vaccine. Baits were distributed at a range density of 11 to 15 baits per km2. First results are very encouraging. A recombinant vaccinia virus harbouring the rabies virus glycoprotein gene has been developed. This recombinant virus can be given to the fox by the oral route and protects it against rabies virus challenge; it is also innocuous for the fox and other non-target European species. A first trial of fox vaccination against rabies using this recombinant vaccinia-rabies virus has been carried out in Belgium, on a military domain, in October 1987.
