[Factor analysis of the French revision of the AMDP rating scales. Results of an international study of 388 cases].

A total of 388 patients from 10 Belgian and French Centers were evaluated with the 1981 revision of the psychopathological and somatic scales of the AMDP System. Principal components factor analyses indicate that the somatic items contribute little to the structure. A 10-factors solution of the psychopathological items generate the following factors after orthogonal rotation: Obsessions-Phobias, Dramatization, Anxiety, Depression, Retardation, Organicity, Dissociation, Delusions, Mania, Dysphoria. This structure is similar to the analyses of the previous German edition except for Anxiety (due to additional French items) and Dramatization (which replaces the German factor on Hypochondriasis). The correlations between raw factor scores and item scores of the BPRS and of a similar AMDP-derived scale contribute to the validation of the AMDP factors and to the justification of a 13-item AMDP Syndromic Scale.

[Personality of women resorting to repeated voluntary abortions].

Women having recourse to repeated voluntary abortion are more and more numerous. Contraception is not a prophylactic mean for that, and it explains the interest to study the personality of women who abort repeatedly. We tested 41 of these women with the Minnesota Multiphasic. The answers showed psychotic and psychopathic tendencies, all the more as they were younger.

Teaching "family": evaluating a multidimensional clerkship curriculum.

BACKGROUND: A multidimensional program that includes workshops on family systems, family interviewing, a home visit, and faculty precepting at East Tennessee State University (ETSU) is described and evaluated. METHODS: Over a 3-year period, ETSU junior clerks received systematic instruction on family issues in medical practice. Evaluations were obtained at the conclusion of the experience. RESULTS: The number of students who rated the importance of family in family practice as "very strong" increased from 14 (28%) to 33 (66%) between the beginning and the end of the rotation. The majority of students reported that each of the curricular elements on family had a "strong positive impact" and rated home visits as most important in promoting their understanding of families. CONCLUSIONS: The curriculum on family had a significant role in enhancing students' appreciation of the importance of the family in medicine.
