Autonomic neuropathies affecting the lower extremities.
The autonomic nervous system is a diffuse network that is primarily under involuntary control. This article described the functional anatomy of the autonomic nervous system, which is essential in understanding the disease entities that affect the lower extremity. Autonomic dysfunction of the sympathetic system is primarily affected and includes those syndromes involving the sweat glands and the blood vessels. Abnormalities of autonomic function in the lower extremity in three prominent neuropathies has also been presented.
