[Vesico-renal reflux and pregnancy].

By modifying the anatomical location of the bladder and ureter, and by favoring urinary stasis and pyuria, pregnancy may reveal or aggravate an existing vesico-renal reflux. In reporting six cases of vesico-renal reflux in pregnant women, revealed by attacks of feverish lombalgia, or mictional disorders associated with pyuria, and confirmed postpartum by intravenous urography, retrograde cystography and cystoscopy, the authors recall the factors associated with pregnancy which favor the appearance of a reflux, mechanical, hormonal and metabolic action. Surgical correction of refluxes associated with pyuria and detected during pregnancy would seem indicated.

[Compression of the pelvic ureter by a hypogastric aneurysm].

An isolated aneurysm of the right hypogastric artery provoked ureteral compression responsible for renal colic and evidence of uretero-pyelo-caliceal dilatation on I.V.U. Diagnostic features are reviewed and emphasis laid on the severe course of this affection which justifies urgent surgery associating vascular reconstruction, ureterolysis and ureteral reimplantation.

[Epidermoid cyst of the the testis. Six cases (author's transl)].

Epidermoid cyst of the testis is a benign tumour. It is not rare since between 1971 and 1980, 6 were found amongst 54 tumours of the testicule in the Rennes Regional Hospital Centre. The lesion is asymptomatic, causing neither lymphadenopathy nor any laboratory abnormalities. It can be differentiated from a malihgnant tumour only by histopathological examination and treatment may be summarised as orchidectomy.

Accumulation of polyamine analogs in red blood cells: a potential index of tumor proliferation rate.

It has previously been demonstrated that during Lewis lung carcinoma (3LL) growth, red blood cell (RBC) spermidine (Spd) levels change concominantly with the tumor volume and [14C] Spd accumulates in proportion with the tumor volume, if [14C] putrescine (Put) is administered. In the present study we substituted a non-radioactive analogue for labelled Put with the aim to perform human studies, should the method prove suitable to quantify malignant cell proliferation intensity. 2-Methylputrescine (2MPut) is an excellent substrate of spermidine synthase and is transformed in vivo into methylspermidine (MSpd) and 6-methylspermine (6MSpm). After a single i.p. dose of 2MPut, MSpd accumulated in RBC of mice with 3LL xenografts. The concentration of MSpd correlated directly with tumor progression. No significant amounts of MSpd were found in RBC of normal mice. It appears that 2MPut has the potential to become a new tool in tumor diagnostics.
