[Observational study of therapy compliance in the treatment of uncomplicated urinary tract infections of the urinary tract with 500 mg ciprofloxacin suspension].

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate patient compliance with 500 mg. ciprofloxacin oral suspension therapy for uncomplicated tract infections. METHOD: Open, non-comparative, multicenter study of 87 patients of both sexes. Mean age was 67.5 years. Duration of treatment ranged from 3 to 10 days. RESULTS: The degree of compliance with treatment was satisfactory in 82.7% of the cases. CONCLUSION: The characteristics of the 500 mg ciprofloxacin oral suspension (easy to take, easy to use, etc.) facilitate patient compliance with the treatment prescribed for uncomplicated urinary tract infections.

[Metabolic changes in the patient with recurring lithiasis. Our cases].

Over a period spanning six months, 69 patients with lithiasis were selected for evaluation of mineral metabolism. Hypercalciuria, particularly renal, was the metabolic disorder that was commonly detected. A high incidence of altered uric acid metabolism was also observed. The importance of correct diagnosis and treatment of hyperparathyroidism is underscored because of the extraordinary benefit afforded to these patients. Correct patient selection has resulted in a lower incidence of those with normal metabolic parameters and has thus maximized the usefulness of these studies.

[Tuberculous microbladder. Ileocystoplasty for enlargement].

We have had occasion to treat 8 patients suffering from tuberculous microbladder on whom we carried out augmentation plasty with a segment of ileum according to Ring-plasty technique in 6 cases, and with U-morphology in the other two, all displayed as the main symptom increase in mictional frequency. Six patients were subjected to prior tuberculostatic treatment. Mictional frequency improved in all patients. We observed morphological improvement in seven patients and functional improvement in four, there was one death, in a patients who had only been having prior tubculostatic treatment for one month. Daytime continence was achieved in al cases and there was nocturnal incontinence in five patients. U or ring ileocystoplasties are simple fast techniques displaying good capacity with low pressures and residua of less than 80 cc. No vesicourethral reflux was observed when we carried out the reimplantation.

[Renal carcinoma and acquired cystic disease of the kidney in a patient after transplantation and under hemodialysis].

Renal Acquired Cystic Disease (RACD) is a frequent entity in patients with a long standing renal failure under hemodialysis treatment. Incidence of a tumor pathology is higher in those patients than in the general population. A new case is presented and some possible etiopathologenical factors of RACD and neoplasias on such pathology are established.

[Kidney traumatism. Evaluation using computerized axial tomography].

Evaluation of kidney injuries has been controversial for a long time and urography, chiefly, and angiography were the most widely used explorations previously. We have evaluated 21 patients suffering from different degrees of renal injury by means of CAT, in conjunction with other explorations. We diagnosed nine renal contusions, five subcapsular hematomas, laceration with perirenal hematoma in three cases and we detected extravasation of the contrast in five patients. CAT showed itself to be the best method in the study of kidney injuries through giving a clearer anatomic definition of the lesions, whilst also carrying out a functional evaluation of the viscera. Obviously, in severe haemodynamically unstable injuries intraoperative evaluation of the lesions is the best diagnostic and therapeutic method.
