[Determination of residues of chlorinated and phosphorated pesticides on the fruit of Pesaro province (author's transl)].

The residues of pesticides chlorinated and phosphorated on the fruit of Pesaro province at the moment of its immission on the market has been determined. No pesticides has found to have a residue near to toxicity values, but sometimes more than one pesticide has been found on the same sample. This fact, also if not alarming, must be attentively considered in order to promote a better information campaign and therefore a more rational use of those substances.

[Eosinophilia-myalgia syndrome associated with 5-OH-tryptophan. Description of a case].

The Authors report a case of eosinophilia-myalgia syndrome in a patient with a history of alcohol abuse, treated with a 5-OH-tryptophan containing drug. As regards the pathogenesis of this "new" clinical syndrome, three major hypotheses can be considered: a) autoimmune, according to which tryptophan could act as an "immunogenic" stimulus, thus evoking a cell-mediated reaction against neuromuscular structures; b) dysmetabolic, that is to say, related to neurotoxic metabolites of tryptophan, which in certain conditions could be degraded by an "alternate" pathway that is normally less operating; c) toxic, which is the most accredited nowadays, according to which there is a toxic factor, perhaps similar to aniline, linked to the process of manufacture and purification of L-tryptophan. In our patient, the drug withdrawal and a therapy with steroids led to the remission of the syndrome.

[Ulcerative colitis, thromboses of the cavernous sinuses and prostatic plexus and acute necrotizing hemorrhagic leukoneuraxitis: a case report of a syndromal association].

The authors describe a case of ulcerative colitis initially complicated by priapism due to cavernous sinus thrombosis and by prostatic plexus thrombosis and, subsequently, by a fatal acute necrotizing hemorrhagic leukoencephalitis. This complex and, apparently, until now unreported association supports the view that ulcerative colitis is the expression of a systemic disease. It also raises important pathogenetic problems which are discussed in connection with the vascular complications of ulcerative colitis reported in the literature.

[The treatment of the cutaneous larva migrans syndrome with albendazole. The authors' experience].

In 26 cases of creeping eruption observed during the years 1986-1989 the treatment with albendazole per os (200 mg twice a day for 5 days) led to the disappearance of all clinical manifestations within 2-3 days. Only in two cases, in which the larvae were clearly in hypobiosis, the treatment had to be repeated at the same posology when the helminths appeared to be clearly active; the second course of treatment was fully effective. No side effects were recorded.

[Monitoring of plasma concentrations of aminoglycosides].

Aminoglycosides are antibiotics commonly used in the management of a large number of gram- and gram+ infections but their use is limited by their potential nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity. At present, monitoring of plasma concentrations is the most reliable method for assuring adequate therapy with these antibiotics. The above paper was intended to show the importance of pharmacokinetic monitoring in order to guarantee therapeutic efficacy and control potential toxicity of aminoglycosides in a series of 90 patients.

[Seroepidemiological considerations on the influenza a in Umbria (1978) (author's transl)].

The authors studied the seroepidemiology of influenza virus A/Victoria/3/75 (H3N2) and A/URSS/90/77 (H1N1) in Umbria, in 1978. The percentage of seroprotection against the subtype H3N2 results low and in such do not inhibit the diffusion of this subtype during the next winter season. The study of seroepidemiology of subtype H1N1 demonstrated that this subtype circulated in Umbria in the winter 1977-78 and that the conditions exist for its circulation.
