The combination of myopathy and neuropathy with fibrosis and contractures has apparently not yet been reported from the use of meperidine. We describe a patient addicted to meperidine in whom bilateral hand numbness and weakness developed and electrodiagnostic studies revealed moderate slowing of motor nerve conduction velocities. Neurolysis of the median and ulnar nerves resulted in markedly improved symptoms.
An experimental study is presented which demonstrates that a large composite graft of cartilage and skin can survive with an overlying skin flap. The grafts were transferred without loss of configuration when the composite tissue was placed on a bed of vascular tissue. The presence of a skin flap over the graft appears to assist in providing an environment conducive to survival while neovascularization is occurring. This is the first stage in developing a technique of ear reconstruction in which the overlying skin is not used and the cartilage will retain its shape with subsequent transfer.
A single case is reported of a large posterior calf defect, involving skin, subcutaneous tissue, and underlying muscle, in which contour is restored employing an inferior half of the gluteus maximus musculature and overlying skin as a free flap. In this patient a bulk of tissue was moved using microvascular surgical techniques while maintaining minimal donor site deformity.

A 3 X 3 cm, buried, split-skin graft will survive on an avascular bed if it is temporarily covered with a skin flap. Four cases of secondary ear reconstruction are presented, in which this technique was effectively used.
Vascularized groin flaps were transferred to the contralateral side by various microvascular anastomotic techniques. There was no statistical difference between the results of end-to-end and end-to-side anastomoses, when the same sized vessels were compared. However, significant differences existed when vessels smaller than 0.5 mm in diameter were anastomosed.
The reconstruction of a functioning esophagus with a free groin flap was performed successfully in 10 rats. A technique is described for the experimental anastomosis of vessels with a diameter of 0.5 mm or less. We also describe a modification of a method to convert a hairy flap before transfer into a hairless one.
Methoxyflurane was given by inhalation as the sole anesthetic agent to 42 New Zealand white rabbits, with no mortality. The depth of respiration as well as the changes in the color of the ears were monitored constantly. A technique for administering methoxyflurane without intubation is described.
